Looks like they are removing gauze from a wound, not a snake. It's for cleaning a wound and allowing it to heal from the inside, instead of closing up / covering a wound, which could allow an abcess or infection to form. Still looks pretty gross though, and I'm sure it's rather uncomfortable pulling a few feet of gauze out of your body.

the thing was white, there was no blood on it at all really... dunno.. wouldn't gauze .. or anything be all bloody ?

nevermind there's some blood at the end, which leads me to go with the 'packed inside the wound' thing.

little to no blood is normal. ever pop a big zit and get a whole bunch of pus, but little to no bleeding after? the packing soaks up pus in addition to preventing the wound from closing up from the outside in, forming an abscess.
