| Thank GOD I've never worked anywhere but privately owned small businesses with one man at the top to make decisions. The fact that they had that big of a form to fill out when you QUIT pretty much says all I need to know about working for a corporation. |

| Nameless, faceless corporations can often times pay more and offer more benefits than small businesses. My business sees many people leave for more bountiful waters, only to return a few months later after finding out that the high paying job they went to was the equivalent of selling one's soul to the devil. |

+5 Internets | You can't pay rent with souls. Of course this world would be awesome if you could.

| I was worked for a small company that was subcontracted by Verizon and I can say that sounds pretty spot on from all my dealings with them. Just being subcontracted by we had to jump threw so many damn hoops was just retarded. |

+39 Internets | Because it costs money to hire / train a replacement... turnover is expensive, both in lost customers and in training. If they can figure out how to make people stick around just 3 months longer then they save thousands upon thousands in the long run. |

Those 3 weeks of training, the agents got paid (generally a couple bucks less than what they would make once they hit the call floor). They didn't get benefits at the time, but pretty much they made like $8-9 an hour while in training. Just doing simple math, and not taking into account costs of the facility, trainers, computer equipment for training rooms, you're looking at almost $1000 in raw salary on average for each agent each 3 weeks. Our call center was open 18x7, had about 140 agents each day, and the turnover was pretty rough (as is for most call centers)...They would have new training classes start every couple of months, sometimes 3 classes per day, using 2 training rooms, first going at 6am-3pm, another going from 8am-5pm, and the last going from 3pm-12am. And, on top of all of that, not all agents made it to the floor after training. Some would quit after the training period (i.e. they wanted a 3 week payday), others would fail the final testing (some of these would have to go through the whole 3 week training again, but most were termed)...The percentage that actually make the floor our of an average class size of 20, was around 6-7. Call centers don't attract "high quality" employees....heh Trust me, they care about keeping their folks. They don't necessarily care ABOUT their agents, but they want to keep them. | |
