Computer heat problems (solutions?)

My new computer has a heat issue, for the time being i have taken off a side pannel and placed a box fan next to it, but obviously i dont want that to be permanent. with just the internal fan (power supply and processor fans) running, it can reach up to 130 degrees, according to my PC health status, then it crashes the comp. any ideas? maybe get a new processor heatsink/fan? water cooling?

So you just have a fan for the processor and the power supply? You might want to think about getting extra case fans if your case allows it. I have one in the back and one in the front of my case.

I'm not positive but I think taking out a side panel and running your comp really exposes it to static electricity which can ruin your comp. So becareful. Also, is your comp in a little enclosed area? This can really add to the heat.

If your computer is like many others, it probly has tons of dust. This dust acts as a fur coat and insulates and traps heat. It also clogs the fans and slows down air circulation. Just take a nice vaccum cleaner and suck it out.

What comp do you have btw? (specs)

my advice is just get a few more fans and a digital doctor. the digital doctor will measure the heat and determine the speed that the fans need to spin at. if that doesn't work perhaps you should look into all the cooling you can ie a hard drive cooler, those liquid nitrogen or whatever chipset cooler coolers.

i just assembled a p4 2.8gig with 1024mb DDR ram and a Nvidia gforce fx 5900 and i've got 5 fans and a digital doctor 5, i might add a few more fans so i can run quieter when it gets hotter.

Are you sure it's your CPU that's causing all the heat? Could be your video card.

The fan on my 9700 went out on me some time back and I started having lockups and reboots when doing anything graphically heavy (i.e. games). The easy fix was to just pick up a pci slot fan (five bucks or so) and put it next to the video card and it's been fine ever since.

Even if not, it's an easy way to add more cooling to a case that doesn't have alot of fan ports.

if you only have a HSF and powersupply fan you deffinatly need an exhaust and intake case fan. Or you could try and set your ABR to a higher temp in BIOS. I would rather get more fans than changing the ABR. If you go with case fans try and get equal number of intake as exhaust that should take care of your heat problem also check out the pentium site to make sure your CPU isn't running too hot. Are you using the stock HSF that came with the CPU? not sure how hot Pentiums are supposed to get since i'm AMD all the way =0p

I built my system about 2 months ago and used a stock heatsink for a AMD 3000+ XP w/ 400 fsb and it couldn't actually run it at full speed. It was running at a 1800+ at around 95 degrees. I ordered this baby http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/s.../subzero4g.htm and now im running my 3000+ at around 90 degrees. Another good thing about this heatsink is that is is VERY QUIET. It will run ya about $100 bucks for it.

d

That's a very high temperature. The stock heatsink should be fine (assuming you purchased the retail boxed CPU). Did you apply thermal paste between the cpu and heatsink?

yeah i was thinking the same thing 90c is very hot for that cpu if i'm not mistaken 80 or 85c is the hottest its supposed to be running at before taking permanant damage . Ya might wanna think about openin' yer comp up and try resetting the HSF and add some better thermal paste to it.
