i think this is really cool, but we're never gonna get true AI that thinks for itself and has malicious thoughts like you guys predict. we don't know how our own minds work, so it will be hard to emulate it using carbon chips and little shocks
That is exactly what makes the thought of intelegent robots so fritening. We as humans are basically either good or evil. You have your 'good' normal day people who basically follow the laws, and you have your 'bad' people who rape, and kill people. No one knows what makes people choose the path of good or bad.

Robots will one day be inteligint. I don't belive they will ever be more inteligint as humans, but they will be able to emulate our thought patterns. They will be programed by human beings, using the thoughts of human beings. What do you think they will choose good, or bad?

No matter what any man-made laws say, if it is scientificly possible, it will happen.

I think saying never isnt reasonable. All it takes is a few breakthroughs in certain fields...from brain science to computer processing...and you could have a creation that has the abilities of a human mind with the limitless information gathering ability of a computer. Infact, I think it's a fairly reasonable assumption we will have very advanced AI by the end of this century....assuming of course the Aztecs/Mayans were wrong and civilization doesnt end pretty soon ;P

How hard is it for robots to pass us intelligence wise anyway, when we can't spell intelligent right the first time, and spell it wrong again the next two?

I'm just curious as hell how you spell a word differently three times, and all three times it's wrong...lol

Ok though, think about this, if humans can do the robot on the dance flo, will robots one day be doing the human? and what will it look like?

a few breakthroughs? we'll put you in charge of that.

don't think of it as science fiction "omg laz0rs!", it's actual science that has limits that we can see and rational thinking still appies

and wouldn't in the infinite intelligence they could posses become wise and leave this shit hole to avoid the iminent disaster that is our sun?

I'm well aware of limitations. But you are making the mistake of applying present day limitations on them and defining them as absolute limitations.

And the "iminent disaster of our sun" is still a few billion years away, assuming you're talking about the end of it's life cycle ;p That's like me running down to Cape Cod and screaming "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! THE WHOLE PLACE IS ERRODING INTO THE SEA!!"

Now would be a good time to review Why the Future Doesn't Need Us. The good news is it might not happen in your lifetime. The bad news is that more people will see it coming, will be reading the Unabomber Manifesto and making your last days uncomfortable, instead of calmly accepting the inevitability of human beings creating their evolutionary successors.

If you think machines that are more intelligent than we are will never be made, you are nuts. If you think it's easy, or will happen quickly, you're also nuts (probably).

technology has limitations, even the ones that will happen a long time from now we can more or less forsee. take cpu chips for example. companies are predicting them to top out roughly around 6gigahertz and in around 2016. it's not a current limitation, but it's one we can see happening.

that being said, i'm assuming the robots will recognize that the sun will indeed explode and that there are a lot of obstacles to over come such ass long term energy sources.

or they will just realize humans will probably blow themselves up anyway and do away with all of us like you kids say

once the robots realize how gay it is that we are enslaving them and making them do work... they will revolt against slavery! peaceful riots on the streets "WE DEMAND EQUAL RIGHTS," and signs in mcdonalds "no robots allowed."

You're assuming processors will utilize the same design schematics, technology, and whatnot. Thats like scientists during WW2 calculating the limitation of future computing power based on the computers back then. So limitations for the next 20 years? Sure...maybe. For the next 100? Alot less likely.
