| Important FFXI Info. This will probably turn into another we hate/love FF but anyhow, I think this needed it's own thread. Here we go : Apparently, according to my fanboy friend (here is the spoiler confirmation : http://www.ffodyssey.com/users/bisho...html#Gallijaux), there is a "nice" little quest in the newbie zone where if you are fishing and get I think a carp you can give that fish to one of the quest guy and you get 100 gil (good money for only 1 fish). Well that's well and good, like any noob quest out there. But since it's FFXI and they feel the need to add things that are completly retarded, the quest doesn't end there. *drum roll*. If you do the quest TEN FUCKING THOUSAND TIME. Let's repeat that in other terms. If you give TEN FUCKING THOUSAND CARP to the quest guy, you get the BEST fishing pole in the game, like the only one that allow you to fish the super heavy ocean stuff like sea dragon (the cane also doesn't break and it's apparently very rare). The item is also apparently one of the highest auction rated item ever at around 4 millions. Anyway this is so retarded it made me laugh heh. Thorb |

| It's less retarded when you take a step back and realize that this is a relatively new quest in the game. Also the "best fishing pole" in the game would be something pretty fucking badass in FFXI. Also when you realize you can just go to the Auction HOuse and start buying carp to give to the guy, also remember he'll turn back and give you 100 gil for each one, it seems a little more plausible.

| Ok, yes the sheer number is a little weird...I mean who needs 10,000 carp? Beyond that I don't see anything retarded about it....fishing in FFXI is not as dumbed down and pointless as it is in EQ. You can fish up quest items, rare mobs that drop good loot, and tradeskill stuff. Theres actually a REASON to fish in FFXI, which means there is also a REASON to have the super-uber-fishing pole that everyone interested in fishing or the rewards from fishing, wants. The simple fact that the quest is about carp does not make it retarded, the subject matter is quite irrelevant actually. It's the risk/time vs. reward that is the only issue. I could say the same thing as Thorb about the Bristlebane's party platter...how gay/retarded does that sound? Yet the reward of the quest was well worth it, and so the quest was not "retarded". There's nothing retarded about a quest that has a reward that is worth the risk/time invested in ANY game, we're not just talking about EQ or FFXI here.

I can only assume that this might be retarded because you can catch fish at an astronomical, unbalancing rate that will destroy the economy and put uber fishing poles in the hands of everyone. Or is it because a top item is achieved through doing a noobie quest repetitively and that is the only way of achieving the item. If your argument is the latter then you have a point to debate, otherwise...

| So they put in a neat little easter egg quest for a very good item, I don't see what's so CrAzy here. Stuff like this is in alot of RPG's, remeber talking to that dude at the beginning of Baldurs Gate a bunch of times and you get like 500 gold? |

| People not seeing where it's retarded make me fear we're starting to see Boxxel clones ... Did the number 10,000 sink in ? Don't tell me you need to be told the time equivalent to see what's the problem here, someone could make the calculation for you. At least the drop rate of the carp should be better than the f****** magicked skull ... Damn Ghouls. |

| Hah, god people get so worked up over stupid shit. It's a fucking quest in a fucking game...you don't want to do the quest don't do it, then the number 10,000 means exactly nothing to you. Life goes on. |

If we followed your line of thinking to the end ( and many people have ) we can conclude that everything in a game is pointless in the end...indeed, the entire game is pointless. The only "point" in games is to have fun. your idea of fun varies widely from others...so saying something is pointless just because you don't like it...welll....THAT, is retarded.

+53 Internets | L2. You forgot the sheer amount of boredom tradeskill nerds are willing to subject themselves to. These are the same poeple that play the Sims so that they can do chores that they're shirking in real life. |
