At least the drop rate of the carp should be better than the f****** magicked skull ... Damn Ghouls.

Again, I ask....who the hell cares. Its a trade skill quest that only the trade skill fanatics will do anyway. I fail to see how this is "important information". FFXI has its problems...this hardly ranks as one of the slightest of important ones.

Rabid fanboi-ism is pretty retarded too. People are going to make posts like this about every game, whether it's FFXI, EQ, or even WoW. There will be something to complain about, design decisions to laugh at, whatever.

Does it make the game less fun for you because people bash it? It must, otherwise I can't understand why you'd make a "frothing at the mouth, spittle flying everywhere" post every time someone does so, followed by several more follow-ups...

And you're wrong, the quest for Bristlebane's Party Platter was extremely fucking retarded. I'm not sure whether it's worse than handing in 10000 carp to some guy in FFXI or not, but thankfully I have no intention of ever trying FFXI due to the fact that everyone I know who bought the game has quit it in disgust or at the very least barely plays anymore.

I generally don't respond to people who call me a fanboy...I'm certainly not. I've pointed out time and again the flaws that I see in FFXI. I don't see a lot, but there were a few and I DO acknowledge them when they are legit. I know it's not the greatest game ever...hell, I still like most single player games more than any online game I've ever played.

I did say that 10,000 is a bit of a ridiculous number. I am not defending the semantics of the quest at all. People simply have differing ways of having fun in online games. Some of them have fun doing everything except raiding high end mobs and being hard-core.

The fact that no matter where you go, you see LOTS of high level people fishing says something for the act of fishing and the game's implementation of it all by itself. So many people wouldn't do it if there was no point or it was devoid of fun. Just look at EQ for an example...nobody fishes. And it's not because the game sucks, but fishing just has no purpose in EQ, or people feel like it has no purpose. I never fished in EQ, I don't plan on fishing in FFXI...it really doesn't matter now does it?

Thorbadin came trolling and presented a weak case. Blind Fanboy or biased non objective critic, they are both cut from the same cloth.

The guy who spends a good portion of his time fishing deserves a good fishing pole. He likes fishing and is rewarded for it with an uber pole. If you want to devote 1000hrs of your game time to fishing or on other tradeskills, knock your socks off.

I'm with single player games myself for now. MMOG's just can't compete with them imho but I'll give them all a fair shake.

Ohh I came trolling?

I think alot of peops fail to see the issue.

Do you guys remember ultra rare crap like quillmane in south karana? That was "ok" till some genius decided that it would be a good idea to put that in the magician epic? Ohh, but you don't have to do the epic right? Grimfeather and the stupid mask?

VT/Emp key? But these quests are ok because you don't have to do them?

It's the same fucking thing with that pole quest. People WILL submit themselves to this kind of bullshit and they also will probably hate the fucking dev for putting them throught this crap.

The it's ok you don't need this item doesn't work. It's basically a cheap shot by dev who don't know better.

Take this example, I know my guild and peops in my guild pretty well. Let's assume for 1 sec that they add in a quest where you have to give some npc 10000 fishable only carp to get an item worth this hassle. What would happen? At least 33% of the guild would think they need to do this quest no matter how retarded it is. So they would go out and start fishing and buying crap in the bazaar. Alot would realise how totally stupid this shit is (but still wanting it) and they would resort to macro and all sort of semi cheat to get the job done. In the end maybe 10% only of the guild will get that pole (tweak that number based on diff) but you can be sure of 1 thing, 100% would bitch about the complete retardness of having such a fucking quest in the first place, would hate the dev even more, and would be bitching on message boards right now at all this shit.

We already talked about how FF is full of stuff like this (spells, epic stuff, unlocking of a bunch of sub-class, etc), some less painfull then others, this one felt like a particularly painfull quest that's why I pointed it out.

And again, for those that really don't understand : The "But, but EQ had this shit too!" Read again the part where it says VP/VT and other "quest" like that is/was the most stupid stuff ever made into eq and probably caused more quitting then anything else.

..

Zehn maybe you can explain it to me.. or anyone.

I understand most Video games.. you get to inject yourself in a game where you do things you normally would not get to do.
Slay Dragons.
Shoot mutherfuckers.
whatever..

But I just dont understand the draw of doing something YOU CAN GO OUTSIDE AND DO.
It seems to me that if I get a hankering to go fishing while Im playing a video game.. I should probably log off and walk into the daylight, find a pond and make like Huck Finn.

I guess someone mentioned in another thread that you can be a Gardener.. or a Landscaper in FFIX. wtf...

The United States is home to more fat bastards than anywhere else in the world.. gee I wonder why..
If my Dad ever caught me doing chores on a video game, fuck he would probably have a brain Hemmorage from the irony.

But I think I just stumbled on a sure fire hit video Game.
"Mundane Shit"

Sorry, Maxis beat you to it.

Its called the Sims. Only difference is it takes a sim 15 minutes to walk across his living room. Maybe some gamers take that long, but they'd have to be really, really morbidly obese.

Heh, that's pretty cool. I bet the Quarm level mob in FFXI drops a bassmaster 5000 that allows you to catch the uber rainbow trout.

You can kill people in The Sims though. You aren't supposed to do that IRL. hahahahah....BOX YOU IN FOR COMPLAINING! HOW YOU LIKE THE CAGE?!?!? (doesn't really merit it's 10 expansion packs though, unless they have an S&M pack...that would be worth buying)

How does all of that make it less retarded? That makes it more retarded IMO.
Well you aren't gonna buy all 10,000 carp. This isn't something you grind. You can catch carp in many many places. Someone who fishes for a long time will accure a shitload of carp over time. Then I guess they could just buy the last bit they need if they really wanted to. Of course I have no idea how many carp you would actually accumulate over the course of a year of casual fishing. So it may in fact be really retarded. *shrug*

Frankly I find fishing boring as shit in FFXI thusfar. It takes WAY too fucking long to raise. One day while studying for a final I decided to practice fishing at the same time. After 4 hours I got my skill raised by TWO points. Wtf?
