| Historians now believe that thumbs down actually meant for a Gladiator to be spared, while a thumbs up meant he be killed. To be historically accurate with the current interpritation, the thumb should be turned the opposite way.

| Not saying you're wrong, but I've never ever heard of anyone pointing with their thumb horizontal. There is a famous painting of Nero which had the thumb's down, and that painting was referenced in what I read. If horizontal was live, and up (or down) was die, what was down (or up)?

| I believe it was thumb out and horizontal, or thumb inside, in a fist. One meant kill, other meant spare.
