Try and take this seriously...no really...

I think Furor should write a book. Now before you start calling me another Furor fanboi, hear me out. I once labeled him as a cultural icon, and to well over a million people he very well probably is. These icons don't necessarily mean they are good, bad, or indifferent. Merely individuals who represent an aspect of a culture, one which was principly born with Everquest (yes UO was big too).

So why a book? Why the heck not? The man has a story to tell, one that no doubt many people want to hear. The symbol of attitude, of the stiff upper lip standing against the will of a corporate giant. Furor has been here from the beginning, who found a reason to presevere. For many out there they want to here the 'real' stories of the first level 50's, of the bannings, the reasons, the whys, the hows, straight from 'the man'.

I'm not sure if any publishers have approached him in private, but I think there is a need for someone to make a statement on the past, present, and future of gamers who commit part of their lives to 'the other side' (for sake of a better term). Sure Howard Stern had a movie, but lets start out with a book and go from there. I think people want to know, and that's enough of a reason. Plus, I've had enough of the public getting only one side of the story (stupid people leaving their children in the cars, committing suicide, etc). I'd like them to know about living the high life in EQ, and knowing the low points before the rest. The struggle, the indecision. Hey someone call Jerry Bruckheimer!

So...real idea, or real stupid? (And skip the Furor Fanclub jibes). I have nothing to gain, or lose for that matter (well I could be banned I suppose).

Ask anyone who ever played Everquest for more than six months who they thought was the top player in EQ. For the better part of four or five years the answer would be pretty much only be one person. Now if you asked them what they thought of him you'd probably get another reply, somewhere between "I don't know" and "Yeah, that guy has an attitude". Name recognition is a big part of being an icon.

Now ask anyone who played for more than two years who they respected in the EQ community...see what I'm getting at here?

Interesting concept, but i dont think the "audience" is big enough to warrant it, + how much material do you really have available ?

Proof right there he's an icon. People who have no idea who Thott is hate the fuck outa him, simply because Furor says they should.

Not that I'm defending one way or the other, but argue it please.

*shrug* Jack Kerouac is a cultural icon of the 1950's. Part of the beatnik culture, he was no stranger to drugs, illicit sex, and driving from coast to coast in 72 hours. Yet he is remembered almost 'fondly' as setting a trend that trickled down through the decades following as part of a 'counter-culture' type lifestyle. Jack Kerouac wasn't even around for every long before dying at the age of 47 from cirrhosis of the liver (he had a fondness for drinking).

Read the whole biography if you like (linked from his name up top), but I'd say that if Furor plays his cards right, he will definitely have an impact on the MMOG'ing culture that is growing steadily. Computers are getting cheaper, broadband is spreading...you're looking at the beginning, not just a footnote in history.

Furor reminds me of the Daniel Day Lewis character from Gangs of New York. He's become a sort of civic celebrity in Everquest who's always performing, ingame and out, for his many fans.

Where in that statement do you find cause to think I dont know who Thott is? Or anyone else for that matter?
