| Catalog of Tastes Taste is an essential function of life and an important sense. Most people know the tastes of food but not much else. Except for liquids. But how about we taste some things and make a compendium of sorts. I'd like to call it a catalog because these should be things most people have around that if they taste good you can give it a try as well as including pictures so that people can know what exactly you tasted and any differences can be accounted for most accurately. You really should post a picture if you report on something. Lets keep it on the honor system guys. Lets begin with one of my favorite things: music!: Speaker: Tasted neutral but with a bit nutty, slightly sweet taste but in an herbal sense. Headphones: A bit soapy/bitter but still mostly neutral... Funny because music sounds better out of the headphones but tastes better from the speaker... Ipod: Taste reminds me of the skin of deli ham. Definitely metallic. Onto other things: Basketball: Meh... was kind of dirty, didn't get a great taste but was soapy-ish and herbal. I think it's natural taste is more soapy/bitter but the dirt gave it the other taste. Envelope: (Careful if you try paper stuff, tounge paper cuts SUCK) Reminds me of dry noodles. Maybe boiled it'd be better. Flip flop: Think it was leather I licked. But how does leather taste exactly... will have to do more research here. And the best for last, Myself: Tasted like tuna (must be from all the space boob chicks I get ![]() ![]() )Seriously though, a bit like pork I'd have to say. Some tips and tricks: 1) Make sure to cleanse your palate in between tastings. 2) Watch out for paints... if they have lead in them that is not good for you! 3) Get most of your tounge all over the object. Taste buds pick up different tastes on different parts of the tounge so to get full flavor, use full contact! 4) Have a spit bottle around to spit in after done and rinse a bit with water to avoid dirty mouths. 5) While I haven't attempted any here yet, try to find things that you can chew. Chewing brings out different tastes. Glossary: Try to use taste words. I'm not a tastologist so any help here would be appreciated. All I know: Bitter Sweet Sour Umami Soapy Savory ??? (Neat fact, anti freeze is sweet. Found out while on a boat, the fresh water hose was filled with anti freeze for the winter and when rinsed out we used as makeshift high seas hawaiian punch!) |

| Antifreeze is a great way to deal with a squirrel problem, they love the stuff. Just make sure the little shits can't get into your attic.
