Stimulus option?

I was driving the other night and listening to a local Libertarian talk show host when he takes a call. The caller has an idea for a better stimulus plan and I found it interesting, for obvious reasons. Here's the gist of what he said. It's probably not original and it surely will never happen.

There are roughly 300 million americans. Instead of handing these companies nearly a trillion bucks, give each american 1 million. You then require them to pay off their mortgages if they have one, if they don't they must purchase a new home. If they own a car older than 5 years old, they must purchase a new car. They must also pay off any debts they owe.

Now, the 300 million includes all ages, so the number of us over the age of 18 is somewhere around 200-250 million. The host of the show said it would never work for two reasons. 1. It makes sense and 2. It takes power away from the politicians.

I'm sure there are many other flaws in this idea that I'm unaware of, such as after this goes into effect the price of a cup of coffee is $10,000 or something.

I figured as much, though. Seems a bit fucked up though that we give billions to banks and they just horde the money to buy other banks, etc. I can dream though.

As it's been said before, they are not instantly writing a check for a trillion dollars. The stimulus involves projects and funding that will be allocated over many years

~220 million Americans over the age of 18 so that stimulus package would cost 220 trillion dollars. Yeah, that's about 100x what the current bailouts combined have totaled.

or can just give a huge incentive to buy stuff. like removing the sales tax on products from ailing companies and cars from the big 3.

Certainly much better than spending billions on a fucking monorail from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

It's just pork. Business as usual in DC

They actually did this in Taiwan recently: you get a governemnt voucher worth $100 or something that you MUST spend on goods. That is, you can't spend it on paying off a loan or mortgage or whatever - you must spend it on consumer goods over a 3 month period or something. It was deemed a success from what i remember.

As I've said, I knew the idea was flawed when I posted this thread, but it will not cost 220 trillion, lol. Unless my math is fuzzy(and after a couple long islands it may be) 220 million americans at 1 mil a pop is 220 million....not trillion...
