| Self powering electric cars Hey guys I'm on the shitter right now, and I'm sure this idea is going to get me flamed and everything. But what if you had an electric car, and on top of it you added some type of windmill thing (or whatever.) When you drive down the interstate there is so much wind hitting the car, so the thing would spin, could it help supplement recharging of the car's batteries? Or is this an issue where the windmill wouldn't make enough power to compensate for the drag on the vehicle it would cause? Or you could do like some vehicles have the "induction" systems to bring air over the breaks, have the windmills in there, etc ![]()

| I'm pretty sure that the added drag would more than counteract any gains made from having such an unwieldly system. Plus of course the danger if there is an accident and having something that far out from the vehicle might work as an unintended projectile/weapon. However this did make me think of a pretty good article I read in Wired last week. Some genius from Israel (Shai Agassi) is working pretty heavily with a new company as well as several governments (Israel, Denmark, Hawaii state government) about electric cars. It's conceivable that in 10-15 years gas stations will start to be replaced by electrical stations where one can switch out your battery at a moment's notice. That should be able to wean us off the major use of oil, that being cars. Since there is a lot of ways one can get electricity but a lot less ways one can run a combustion engine. The article link btw is Driven: Shai Agassi's Audacious Plan to Put Electric Cars on the Road |

| I met a guy a couple weeks ago who showed me his car engine. Basically he set a little water tank with some metal plates that was powered by the battery at start up and then run by the alternator during motion. He said that his car still used gas right now because he lived in the metro area which required him to take yearly emission checks and that he could not shut off the gas valve completely without setting off the computer. He stated with the hydrogen created by the water tank he was able to double his MPG and should be able to completely run off hydrogen without the gas. Hes working on a system to capture the water formed after leaving the tailpipe to be pumped back into the first water tank.

The fact of the matter is, such a system would lower your fuel economy, and any asshole with a basic knowledge of high school chemistry and physics should know this. This isn't high falluting science, this is quite basic chemistry. Quote:
