| [EQ]EverQuest Classic(EQC) Not sure if this has been posted before, but: EQClassic - Classic EverQuest Server Several emus have tried this and pretty much failed. Most of them were half-assed attempts, but these guys seem to be pretty serious about recreating Norrath. Pretty cool shit. Apologies if it has been posted before, in which case, lock/delete if necessary. |

| It's been around for nearly a year now. The server is currently in alpha, and I predict beta soon - to hammer out stable code I guess, the most troublesome things like bards, AI pathing (though I think that is the db) have been fixed. Anyway, it'll most likely be short and just to make sure the server runs fine before the official launch.

+4 Internets | Not to rain on the parade, but does anyone really think there will be a big enough playerbase to support even 1-2 servers? Sure, they'll be popular for awhile as everyone goes to "Relive the EQ experience!!" However, once the nostalgia dies down, most people will realize that Everquest was, at best, mediocre and move on. Things like this will help to kill it : Quote:
I wish them good luck though. They just might find a solid enough player base to keep a server semi populated, though I'd wager it would mostly be on the high end of the leveling curve. Hell, I might even re-make my character and re-live my first moments of "buffing" a guard with "Short Breath" or whatever that DoT was. | |

+1 Internets | Yeah, I definitely remember having to stare at my book to med as a level 50 paladin. If I recall correctly, I remember having to stare at the book even well after Fear/Hate came out and we were raiding them. |

| I would consider the moderators' ability to arbitrarily rickshaw threads that they find stupid to be an abuse of power. Call me an '07 if you'd like, but this is kind of ridiculous.

+25 Internets | Hmm, definitely after Fear but I want to say before Hate. I know I was level 50 on VZ before they changed it, and VZ opened up in August of 99 (game was released in what, May of 99?). |

| Yeah well once you talk to some of the devs working on it you'll see their pigheaded arrogance, I've tried talking to them on a reasonable level and most of the time they get pissed off at me for wanting to change such a great monument in EQ. I've gotten banned from irc a total of three times just from being in an active conversation and presenting to them why I think something is wrong (exp penalties) or something. I had to get a friend to talk to them and unban me each time. I'm actually banned from viewing one of the moderators guilds website because he doesn't like me.

| There is no internets | My first foray into EQ was foiled by my lack of patience of staring at a spellbook. I played a cleric, and was constantly out of mana. So what would basically happen is I would start watching TV, kind of forget I was playing EQ, some guy would pull, and the group would die. Constantly would have to apologize as it was quite obvious I was either afk or just plain not paying attention. Didnt try again (and stuck with it) until the tossed the spellbook game design, much different game.

+25 Internets | I was 16. Couple of my friends played UO religiously (they were one year younger, 15) and kept telling me and another friend (hardcore TA players) about this new game called EverQuest. So we signed up for the beta and got in. Disc came in the mail sometime just before Christmas break in '98, and I was the first one to load it up and play out of all of us. I stumbled around for three goddamn hours in Neriak thinking it looked cool, but ultimately sucked giant donkey dick and that I probably wouldn't be playing it again. Oh...oh. |
