You're just an insignificant part of the universe as much as they are, thus you have only yourself to be dissapointed in.
Sigh! I'm not really disappointed in anyone man And that's not what I believe.

People are not disappointing. People are objects. They are things that simply are. Being disappointed in someone else would be like being disappointed in my shirt or a carrot.

Is that what you tell yourself to rationalize still being a virgin?

I'd imagine that first of all having thoughts like this is very, very influenced by your own personality. I'm fairly "success" oriented myself, whether that be success monetarily or career wise, or making it as an artist or performer or whatever. To me if you're in your mid 20's and don't have at the very least a career or course in life picked out (or at least have some semblance of a plan other than making rent and getting drunk twice a week), then you're kind of a fuck up.

But a lot of people my age these days, maybe even most, don't think like that. They might have a plan for what they're up to over the next year or two, which is typically "work at this mediocre job that pays me about double to triple minimum wage until I can afford to go travelling again for a month or two", but it's not like they anything longer term mapped out.

So I guess in my eyes, a good number of my friends and extended family members are somewhat disappointing. But they wouldn't see themselves or each other that way, I'm sure. The flip side is, I've got numerous friends who are already engineers or have other degrees and good jobs, or are on their way to being vets, doctors, lawyers and so on.

So I guess the answer for me is this: while I don't necessarily agree with the paths all of my friends have taken since we've become "adults", for the most part I still think they're good people worthy of spending time with, even if they aren't hedge fund managers or world renowned surgeons. If they're happy with their lot in life, great. If they're not but taking steps to correct that, great. If they complain about how shitty their life is but keep repeating the same mistakes, then sooner or later I'll get fed up with their shit and either tell them to smarten up or I'll just stop hanging out with them. Typically if I do the former, that latter follows anyways.

If so many of you find that so fascinating you can always re-bump the old thread. I didn't edit anything away or ask kindly for it to be deleted.

I know I would be disappointed if I were operated on by a guy who showed his anal cavity on the internet to 80 people.

I think I'd be more disappointed in his MD from The University of St. Croix-Barbados or wherever than that she shows his asshole to teens on the internet--especially if he were operating on me.

I'd be disappointed if my surgeon didn't show me a little brown eye before the procedure.
