I think he means per post as in the post gets the reputation, not the poster. I dunno, though.

Sort of like a thumbs-up, thumbs-down kinda thing, but for individual posts? That could be pretty cool.

I dunno what you're talking about, but slashdot is a fairly good example of a post-driven reptuation system.

I don't know what's going on, but somebody gave me negative internets for a 5 year old thread about Everquest.

That's one hell of an axe to grind I guess.

there's also an easy trick to see who gave you rep. Since it tells you exactly when the rep was given open up that thread and look for posts made in the thread within a few minutes of when the rep was given.

It works pretty well.

That's assuming that the person who gave you rep posted in the thread. Doesn't always seem to be the case. The "Fuck Millie" bandit (aka, Smackage), for instance, has been going around to some really old posts and threads to hand out his wacko rep comments.

Yeah...I got that comment for some post I made in the Lost thread back in May. Someone has way too much time on his hands.

I would say this doesn't work at all, let alone "pretty well".

Aside from the very few funny comments reputation is a waste of time. All it does is allow people to respond without responding, bringing us one step closer to /b/. Predictably all but a handful of people are negative by a little or a lot because everyone is more willing to criticize than commend. And at the point that all but that handful are negative, what is the point?

I think the inability to retract internets and differentiate one post from another is a weakness, but would further development really do any "good" or just encourage more people to avoid discussion and reply solely through internets?

At the post level is how it is working currently. You read something then give rep.

What Braen was talking about is seeing someone who gave you a negative, then you find any post of theirs and regulate they ass, returning the favor. This is exactly the reason why we shouldn't know who did what in a serious business rep system. But this is the internets and perhaps that's the game people plays.

So yea, I didn't mean each post of a user but that any scoring system needs to be specific to a post, ideally rating that post moreso than the person posting it.

You could then have something like a rating for a person from 1 to 10 and then a +/- for any given post.

So that's 2 scores for someone, their average personal rating, and their posts' average rating. And it opens up options on the grader's side: what do I rate this person, on average what do I rate this person's posts, etc.

Some of the more notorious posters might have a high personal rating and low post rating because their retardation is, in hindsight, appreciated...

Your mom gobbles retard gay niggroes hot-sauce spicy jizz.
Now wouldn't that be better off in a pseudo-anonymous -internet dismissal of your party-pooping? Discuss.

You could fix the negative issue by having the internets score be a reflection of how many total internets are in the system. In a negative heavy system, someone with -1 is actually on the sunny side of the street, right?

(Your Internets + -1*Total Internets) = Your Relative Internets

-100 bag of douche
-20 opinionated nerd
-1 enjoys retards playing piano
+10 anus on webcam
+50 posts a disturbing amount of R rated photographs

total internets = -61... THE PATH TO ZERO OFFSET: +61

adjusted scores:

-39 bag of douche
+41 opinionated nerd
+60 enjoys retards playing piano
+71 anus on webcam
+111 posts a disturbing amount of R rated photographs
