Maybe I'll turn out to be wrong but threads were already filled with "lol" "QFT" "win" etc as the only content of the post. I haven't seen any indication that this kind of content-less posting has had a spike moreso than a change.

Certain people like Wolfen are certainly going to rise to the top of a system like this. And sure, you don't need a rep system in place to confirm that he's popular here. I mean, the guy posts terabytes of porn on a board full of MMO gamers. Of course people here are going to like him. So his popularity is going to be reflected in the rep system. Big deal, right? It's to be expected. If you want to achieve Wolfen-like cult status, go right ahead and find your own niche to fill. The power is in your hands. Wolfen is not a moderator, an administrator, or anyone affiliated with FoH or Uberguilds in any capacity. He's been given no special treatment. What he is is a guy who discovered his niche and made a name for himself. Everyone is capable of doing the same thing; people just need to be creative and figure out how they're going to do it. You can't begrudge Wolfen his popularity any more than you can begrudge a self-made billionaire his wealth.

As for myself, sure, I have my stalkers and my fanboys. But there are also a ton of people on this board who hate my guts. My rep could probably go either way: either full of positives or full of negatives. Hell, even people who like me will give me negatives just to say they did. Especially after my silly antics yesterday. It's a jokey kind of thing.

Will rep lead to "nazi moderation" and rioting in the streets? Hardly. No one takes rep totally seriously. It's just a fun little diversion. Your rep doesn't change anything about you on these boards, other than a little ticker under your username that you can choose to laugh off or not.

Will rep cause some tensions and problems among users for the first few weeks that it's in place? Probably. I'd have to be naive to predict otherwise. But I feel that, once everyone settles in and settles down, things will quickly go back to normal. Rep will turn into more of a humorous little toy and less of a high school prom. And if the system does turn out only to cause problems, it can always be revisited or reconceptualized.
