Taking a page from his book on "how to deal with people who disagree with me", I have Grobbee on the ignore. So his notices go unnoticed.

Obama's character issues?

As in, the people he's married to? I don't agree with everything my fiance says or thinks, but I love her anyway. This is compromise, and this is what makes our country work, especially in Congress and politics.

I'd say being married to a woman that holds views dissimilar to him makes him better qualified, because he knows how to negotiate and deal with sensitive issues on a daily basis.

McCain's age is an important factor - the man is almost 80 years old, and the job is horrendously stressful and ages a person dramatically.

Stress and old age are the leading causes for heart attacks, and when combined together present a problem that is very real for a man of McCain's age.

Almost 80? He's 71!

That is 6 years above the retirement age.

The part that should be rationalized is how Obama can claim to be a post-racial candidate when closely surrounded by racial-centric people. You are free to (irrationally) ignore it.

The black Princeton graduates associated themselves with other Princeton graduates (who happened to be mostly white) because after spending several years at Princeton, black graduates had more in common with other Princeton graduates than they had with people whose social/cultural group was based around being black. Yet despite the greater sociological similarities the graduates shared, the blacks among the group were more likely to feel less accepted by the group.

Racism happens, and a lot of the time it's not even on purpose. Being aware of it and educated about it is much closer to being post-racial than being ignorant about it.

I'm interested in reading how clearly Michelle expressed her disappointment about this. Citation please. Does it have anything to do with the fact that when successful blacks leave the "black community" behind, the community (or distinct social/cultural group, call it what you will) is left with one less positive role model?

Its not just about him dropping dead either...Frankly, older people tend to be less in touch with the way things are NOW...As opposed, "Back in my day..."

Thats why I'm really wondering about his running mate. I've read 2 articles mentioning his choices and the only one that was mentioned in both articles was Carly.

As for Obama, people keep mentioning Richardson, but that would really surprise me.

reagan was probably senile by his second term and he was still a good president.

I am very much interested in McCain's medical history. He is very old and the presidency is an extremely demanding position. I'd rather not have another Bush who takes vacations every other week sitting in the white house.

Has McCain released his medical records beyond is past cancer yet?

I see now. You're one of those people that looks for reasons to be offended. It must be frustrating to go through life like that.

The VP slot is going to be critical.

If Obama gets Bloomberg (for example) he could easily pickup a state like Florida.

If McCain were to take Louisiana's new Governor Bobby Jindal (as some hard-line conservatives are pushing for), that could throw the whole age & minority issue right out the window. (He's 37ish.) Throw some good words about fixing the state, post Katrina, and you could easily have something interesting.

Quote:
Piyush "Bobby" Jindal (born June 10, 1971) is a Republican politician, and the current governor of the U.S. state of Louisiana.[1] Before his election as governor, he was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Louisiana's 1st congressional district, where he was elected in 2004 to succeed current U.S. Senator David Vitter. Jindal was re-elected to Congress in the 2006 election with 88 percent of the vote. Jindal was the second Indian-American to serve in Congress.

On October 20, 2007, Jindal was elected governor of Louisiana, winning a four-way race with 54% of the vote. At age 36, Jindal became the youngest current governor in the United States. He also became the first non-white governor of Louisiana since Reconstruction, the first elected Indian-American governor in U.S. history, as well as the second Asian-American governor to serve in the continental United States after Gary Locke of Washington.

He was chosen by Scholastic Update magazine as "one of America's top 10 extraordinary young people for the next millennium."[2] He was India Abroad Person of the Year in 2005.

That may be smart because there will be a bunch of pissed off Democrat White Women once Hillary is gone for good. They would vote for McCain for revenge and to elect a woman.

i said it a while back and nothing ive seen has changed my mind:

the biggest divide in the democratic party isnt race or gender. its age. obamas gotta connect with people who are older - fast. those are the people most likely to vote with mccain simply because well they identify with him more because of it. i think people get over race or gender for the most part come fall. age? not so much.

its not a bad thing but people are in denial if they think the "back in my day'ers" arent more likely to vote for someone they see as experienced in life as they are.

The commonly accepted number of years being the President ages you is what, 20 years?

I sure as fuck don't want a 91 year old running my country. Especially not a 91 year old that can't tell the difference between Sunni and Shia and a self-admitted "quick temper."
