[SOE] Would you play another SOE title?

I’m at a point now where not only would I not play another SOE published MMO, but I’m just tired of Sony products all together.

From trying to force me to use their crap proprietary encryption and DRM formats on their mp3 players and phones to the whole rootkit scandal a few years ago it just seems like they really don’t give a shit about consumer rights. It seems like they think we are all fucking thieves, and as such, we need to be sold technology that is designed to “stop us” (and of course they don’t get that right either because anyone who is adamant about getting past that will be able to do find instructions with a simple google search).

As far as MMOs are concerned, I really don’t even know where to begin; but nowadays when I heard SOE bought or is publishing an MMO, I pretty much consider that a death sentence for the title.

Maddox had a funny article about Sony a while ago (I'm tired of Sony's bullshit.) that was pretty funny.

I can care less about whatever DRM or encryption they use, its never been a problem for me. I've enjoyed playing EQ,EQ2 and VG (until I hit 50 and there was nothing to do but farm single group stuff). I'm interested in playing POTBS. Publisher often means little as far as the game is concerned.

A game I worked on was published by Microsoft. They had no say in what we did. We didn't even use any Microsoft development tools. They just published it...

the "problem" with going "fuck all of sony!" is that every department of sony is pretty much a different company. So saying fuck sony for being cunts about media/drm, and not playing SOE games, is a bit silly.

As for SOE, they have their ups and downs, I was pretty impressed what they did with EQ2 and POTBS is a respectable game even if it's not for me. I don't know why they get all the hate they do from certain people, although there are certainly things they've that I dislike (station exchange = fuck you), but also things that I like (station pass).

The whole india thing scared me a bit but it was overblown, so yeah, I'd buy another SOE game (the agency maybe).

Actually I have much love for Sony this week. I have a 2004 Sony LCD Projection TV. It started to show a blue blob on the right side of the screen. It then became a bunch of stars on the screen as shown in the link below.

Sony not only replaced the $1000 optical device at no cost but sent a technician to my house to do it. My TV is long since out of warranty. $1000 is many years of a yearly MMORPG fee.

While my first thought of a SOE MMO generally isn't positive, I would at least consider it, and let it be judged on it's own merits.

I certainly wouldn't avoid a game I want to play, just because SOE was involved in it.

Would I pick up a game off the shelf if it had the SoE logo on it? No, of coruse not. I also won't be touching another Blizzard mmo for quite some time either for that matter.

But if a friend of mine says, "Hey, this game kicks ass" then I could give two shits who the publisher/developer is.

I have more Microsoft "hate" (hate is to strong a word, more like distrust) than Sony hate, actually. Both companies have gotten on my bad side in the past. However I actually like and use alot of Sony products these days. My camera and 2 of my gaming systems are Sony boxes and the last MMO I played (EQ2) was by Sony and I only quit because I had so many other games to play, not because I was mad at the game.

So yes, I would certainly give another SOE title at least a look.
