| Ok, someone give me a recommendation. Played EQ forever, played WoW for the first year or so. I've tried EQ2 and LOTRO. Just looking for something I can play 8-10 hours a week or more if it's really good. I'm getting tired of FPS and RTS, and I haven't found any RPGs worth playing. Anyone have any recommendations for a MMO that fits the bill? G

| Hello, Gilgamel. Vanguard is shaping up nicely. If I keep evangelizing it on the forums, I believe I can get more people to try it. Its all about managing expectations as I have come to realize. The more time passes, I think about what should and should not have been done with Vanguard. We knew the release date was set in stone. Looking back on it I would have tried to avoid launching the same month as the Burning Crusade. It does not surprise me that you have tried out that "other" game only to retain a year played. Beer and peanuts I call it. We have plans rolled out to make the Vanguard of 2008, 2009, and 2010 each better than the last. Sea exploration, ship to ship combat, real-time RTS city building, and experimental choose-your-destiny adventuring. All done without the "help" of instancing. Not to mention the long dangerous caravan rides, where you can log back in with your party in the middle of a journey at any time. |

| When was the last time you tried EQ2? I picked it up with RoK and I'm really enjoying the casual EQ2 life. Apparently the game has made great strides in the last year or so, so if you played it back in the old days, it may be worth a second look. |

| My recommendation would be... if you're into PvE, play WoW; if you're into PvP, play WoW. I sometimes login just to be a dickhead with my alts on Barrens chat. WoW is a cultural experience, the rest are just games.

No seriously, if you can't pick an mmo, either you have no friends playing them or you lack any semblance of social graces, or you've got a 15 inch cock a supermodel girlfriend and have your own fanclub. If you're just looking for a new game to try Eve is good for about 2 weeks until that new game smell wears off and you realize that you've made about 1% progress to catch up in any reasonable sense. FFxi is also nice for about a week or two just to experience the class system and to see what it is those crazy fucking japanese are up to. Lineage2 on a 5x or 10x emu server is worth giving a try just for gratuitous elf breasts. Tabula Rasa and Hellgate London are worth playing for the trial periods (if any) before you realize it's like Team Fortress 2 only your opponants are made up entirely of Terrel Owens fragile emotions and cry on national fucking TV...oh wait, where was I going? Oh yeah... Guildwars/CoH/....fuck, just play every fucking MMO out there for about 1 to 2 weeks. Enough to experience a different viewpoint, but not long enough to grow to hate it. That's what I do. Then I log back into the game where I have the most friends...or at least people I can stand chatting with on a semi-nightly basis. | |

+2 Internets | Pick up TBC and do that content, assuming you've got an old level 60 rotting someplace. Failing that, try POTBS - it's a weird sim/mmo hybrid with a vibrant economy, fairly modern graphics, and a lot of fun types of mechanics to play around with.
