MMOs as an outlet for [future] child predators?

I came across something pretty disturbing this weekend.

Here is a thread from the WoW Realm Forums: WoW Forums -> Abhorrent Taboo.

More importantly, I would quote one message from that thread:

Quote:
Queen Lilith and the leadership have finally enacted a plan long in the works. Having carefully trained the guild's most loyal and promising captive Alliance slaves for this very purpose, the guild has recently released them back into the world... with the mission of using their heritage to spread their corrupting influence throughout the Alliance!

Yes, it's true. As of yesterday, has created a very small "Hobby Alt" guild Alliance side on the RP Server: US-Blackwater Raiders. Right now, the guild has quite a few of our alts that we play a few days a week for fun, and intend to continue playing as secondary characters from this point forward.

The reason that we will be unable to dedicate ourselves more seriously to the creation of this guild is simple; It is because the US-Ravenholdt Horde-side guild is much more important to us, and with 175 active members at the moment, proves difficult to manage without being given an abundance of attention.

However, we would like to establish the Alliance side guild as a successful, stable, and active ERP guild in its own right. For that reason, we are currently recruiting here on Darknest for BOTH guilds from now on.

If it is your desire to join the Alliance-side version of on the US-Blackwater Raiders Role-Playing Server, send me a PM, and make a character there. We desperately need more gnomes, but all races/classes are welcome. There is no leveling requirement, and we kick after 1 month of inactivity only.

[NOTE: Be advised that we frequently ERP in guild chat and often engage in even potentially offensive kinks such as (Extreme) Ageplay, Bestiality, Child Birth, Rape, Watersports, or any other kink those playing may wish to explore. If you are easily offended or upset by others using kinks you may not personally enjoy, this is not the guild for you. Furthermore, we are a guild based on freedom of love and sex. Monogamy of any kind runs counter to this, and so, all sexually exclusive relationships are prohibited.]

If you would like to apply for an officer position within the new guild, you must meet the following requirements:

- You must play your officer character frequently and intend to continue doing so for the foreseeable future.

- You must have absolutely no problem with ageplay or bestiality. In fact, it is strongly preferred that you enjoy both.

- You must be willing to consult Lilith (Aveta in this particular guild) prior to making any major decisions that do not require immediate action.

- You must be fair-minded and never allow your emotions or your ego to dictate your behavior. Officer powers are not a weapon.

- You must familiarize yourself with standards by speaking to Lilith (Aveta in this particular guild) at length about our goals and aims, as well as the way we do things.

- You must be willing to create an alternate character Horde side on US-Ravenholdt so that you may get into contact with Lilith no matter which server she's playing on should the need arise.

All applicants should send me a PM and let me know why they think they'd make a good officer. If you are rejected, try not to take it personally. Not everyone is what we're looking for. If you're accepted, know that you may not be given full powers over the guild's workings right away. Trust must be earned, after all... and proving yourself will be of paramount importance.

I look forward to hearing from all of those who are interested in joining our new effort! Smile

If you have any further questions; post here, PM me, or log onto the US-Blackwater Raiders server and look for this person:
As far as erotic roleplay goes, to me that's pretty much like cyber, so whatever. I don't do it, but not going to harp on people who do. But "Ageplay"? "Child Birth"? Well, apparantly another post clarifies:

Quote:
So our numbers have nearly recovered from the mishap we had earlier this month, but we've found ourselves strangely lacking in Ageplayers. Specifically, we've got a few 6 and 7 year old characters of both genders running around and no grown-ups or other children to play with them.

No matter if you like to play a very young character or if you just like to play WITH them... Abhorrent Taboo wants you!
Absolutely disgusting.

What's worse is they've been doing this for a while on another realm: Ravenholdt, and an attempt to have them banned by the playerbase resulted in nothing as Blizzard apparantly cannot ban people from what's done in guildchat alone (although personally I think some stuff needs to be banned no questions asked).

So this has me thinking as well: Are these games going to become an outlet for child predators or even those who fantasize about preying on a child to play out their fantasies? If so, then I think MMOs have a serious issue to contend with.

Some people are messed up in the head, it's better for them to express themselves virtually than in the real world

The problem is humanity, not MMOs. Whenever there is means of communication, the pervs, pedos, stalkers and other immoral fucktards are going to corrupt it for their own disgusting purposes. I can't imagine a communication technology that hasn't been used in this way.

With that being said, while Blizzard has zero chance of preventing these people from using the game for their own sick purposes, I do hope they prevent them as far as possible from using the in-game mechanics to encourage their behaviour. Disbanding guilds expressly and openly dedicated to this kind of shit would be a decent place to start, but would really only be a palliative because just can't stop humanity from being what it is.

The sad truth is that even if you eliminated them from MMO's, that's not going to make these sort of people disappear. That's not to sugguest Blizzard and all the other companies should sit back and do nothing, but they're not really the right people to deal with the problem itself. Hopefully they're in touch with authorities about it, and the perceived lack of action on their part is due to on going investigations.

I do wonder if maybe Dateline's to Catch a Predator would be interested in doing a sting on the operation though!

Stone Philips playing a gnome would be hilarious.

From that thread you posted:

"How about this?

There was someone in the guild who was a child (between ages 8 and 13) in that guild for a certain amount of time before going to another guild. Does this make a difference? By the way, this is a fact, although I won't go into names."

I can see this one getting REAL ugly fast if Blizzard isn't on it like white on rice.

EDIT: Nevermind that idea. Someone posted a petition in General to have those people banned and the mods locked his thread and left the one listed above open. Amazing! I guess I'll just tune into Dateline because pissing those people off is really just asking for them to go beat down Chris Hansen's door, which they've already threatened to do.

They're essentially using a MMO as a chatroom. That's all. It's not like 2nd Life where you can actually have your character tentacle raped. Then again, the hentai tentacles are the only reason to play 2nd life ;(

On one hand, perhaps they can explore their perversion in a virtual format rather than an offline one. On the other hand, being able to freely express their perversion may lead to them wanting to commit perverted acts, and may also risk the chance of an actual child being caught in it.

I say ban them, get rid of the filth of society wherever it is found.

People roleplaying younger characters are the not same as real children. What does this have to do with child predators?

People roleplaying as children (i.e. younger characters) who then roleplay perverted acts with people roleplaying adults.

Truly, I wonder what this has to do with the possibility of some child predators living out their fantasies.

It has exactly as much to do with murderers living out their fantasies by committing virtual murder in oh, just about every video game everyone on these forums plays. Pretty much everyone here agrees that there's no substantial link between violent video games and RL violence.

If you want to say that virtual depictions of illegal acts are themselves illegal, then well, there goes the video game industry. Hope you like Wii Tennis.
