Thats kinda sad. Go play a Flight Sim or something.

Pfft. Flying mounts are that awesome. Like travel powers in CoH. I could seriously sit there flying around Shattrah for hours and it was entertaining (on the epic speed only really, the slow one was..way too slow). Same with playing a game like spiderman 3..game sucks..swinging around city = epic.

They are cool for like a day, then you realize they ruin immersion. Reminds me of the Yalmaha flying car in AO.

Ruin immersion? WTF are you smoking? Flying around Telon is the best experience I ever had in Vanguard to date, how the hell does it ruin immersion. What is cooler than cruising around on a sweet, sweet drake or gripphon?

Edit -The only thing killing me about this patch is the fucking 5 minute timer... God, thats a killjoy!

Er..what ruins immersion is running around in a technologically advanced civilization. Walking. I can make plasma rifles but not a flying car? pass.

Or Walking around in a land populated by indigenous flying animals..and no one able to tame them? And we have power magics such as mind control that we can use on normal people..but not animals? What? Not to mention you can fly places normally..but they only go to point B..why can't they go to anywhere the fuck I want?

beware of the world shrinking that occurs when you do that. in CoH the zones are huge and very detailed...but you just kind of fly over them to where you want to go, from contact to mission, over and over.

I'm not quite at Nairbog's position where quests should only drop blues/yellows. I don't mind a mix of say the CIS questline (ends with a heroic item and a legendary weapon) and mobs like Hruk (drops heroics). The problem is the balance is like 80% quest for the best loot and 20% kill mobs for the best loot. 50/50 would be a better split for me and something like 30/70 the ideal split.
I guess my main problem with CIS for example is how many levels you spend there, it's just dull being there so long w/o a change in scenery. Of course, if the quests were easier and didn't take so many levels to complete, I don't think a heroic/legendary reward at the end is in order. One possible solution is to have the questlines span multiple areas/continents, of course its too late to do that and it wouldn't have made sense w/o the riftways, but I do hope its something they consider for future content. The other solution would be to slow leveling speed down because people are outleveling the content as they do the questlines, but that is not feasible at this point.

Heh I just read though most of this thread. What a fucking mess... Glad I got the chance to beta VG before I spent a dollar on an unfinished cluster fuck.

I didn't think CIS was too bad myself. It did take a long time to get our full group the keys, but otherwise we probably spent levels 25-29 there getting from the cloak quest up to Kronus, then had to go elsewhere to get to 32 then came back to kill him. I imagine in pickup groups, having to backtrack and catch people up every night, this would be much, much worse.

I think I'd rather have them first retune the series quests to fit the faster experience curve they added after release. Secondly, move all the long grindy item quests like Wardship up to end-game level so it's there when players are done levelling and looking for things to do anyway. A bonus third bit of content would be to add level 50 upgrade quests to the legendary/heroic weapons and armor you collect along your journey, like the CIS/Pantheon/Wardship lines. Could be different grades added for solo, single group, and raid versions like they are planning to do for the epic quests in EQ2.

Nair, we did a bunch of the lower level RV quests in the middle of the CIS grind -- can't do them all as the mobs get too dangerous for levels 27/28 very quickly but a full group can do a bit of grinding in RV for a couple of nights to break up CIS.

I like both these ideas. Wardship is way too grindy for lower levels for all the reasons discussed and would be better off as a 48+ area. Alternatlively make the wardship armor upgradeable to level 48+ heroics (see below)

I also really like upgradable weapons for any of the really nice Tsang/CIS/Pantheon/Etc items. Could maybe tie it in to the crafting sphere somehow -- get the necessary items and your Tsang heroic/Pantheon legendary/etc. and a high-enough weaponsmith or armorsmith can use them to craft a new appropriate level heroic/legendary item based on whatever weapon is being upgraded.

Yeah, I agree. I loved my Yalmy!

Anyways, even AO, with the Shadowlands expansion got rid of flying mounts because they cited: "People just bypass content by flying over shit" Well, what happened there in Shadowlands? People bypassed the content anyways because it was all shitty, no incentives to do 80% of it. Hence poeple only battled Hecklers for exp.

The key is not getting rid of flying mounts because people bypass content, but designing content that people dont want to bypass. You build good content with good rewards and they will come. Regardless of how they get there.

Ya.

People will always bypass content because so far at least that I've seen there isn't a game out there with even a majority of great content vs. skippable content.

Someday I would like to see a game that starts out really small, focus's on the value of the content and makes it all unique, creative and challenging, and then repeats that process again and again. Who cares if it takes longer, if your game is smaller, if people bitch that you are putting out content too slowly. If the content is great all that means is you're making a game that will last and have replay value.

Fun, Creativity, Challenge should be the only 3 words a game developer knows and cares about. World size, game depth are all things that can create themselves if you concentrate on the other stuff. To me that is where Vanguard dropped the ball, they apparently squashed most of the creative ideas and suggestions in favor of "bigger is better".

Bigger is not better, it is just bigger. Challengingly creative and fun is better.
