The decision makers need to hire competent grunts, or failing to, hire competent replacement grunts. I've seen it plenty, and lived through it plenty too - mergers, restructuring, consultants, etc...and somehow most of the same asshats making the decisions seem to remain in place through it all. The majority of "decision makers", executives, and investors look after their own (financial) interests when push comes to shove, and I'm sure Brad isn't coming out of this with his bank account in the red.

I'm not sure what you expected the grunts to do. True, many may have been underqualified, or they overpromised, but again that's what management is there for - to weed these things out and keep the project going. I doubt the Sigil grunts had much influence on the biggest VG decisions, and the reality is that most of the SGO employees ultimately had to do whatever was dictated to them to keep their income flowing. I was lucky enough to be able to leave big money behind when my ethics conflicted with my employers', but at times I've had to do my share of work I didn't agree with to keep the paychecks coming, as I'm sure many SGO employees did too . At least SGO managed to ship (a big deal in the game industry (indeed, most business) with people constantly hopping projects and companies), and I'm confident that prospective employers will be able to fairly evaluate SGO employees and separate their talents (or lack thereof) from SGO and Vanguard's failures.

My degree's in accounting, but I'm not familiar at all with the bankruptcy laws nowadays. If I had to guess, some (obviously) legal stuff is going on, and by SOE only buying the rights to the game, and not buying Sigil the company, SOE is not liable for any of Sigil's other debts, nor are they saddled with any existing employment contracts/benefit packages with Sigil employees, had SOE purchased the company. Sigil can then declare bankruptcy and screw over whatever other creditors there are without it affecting SOE. Then again, I could be wrong because I don't know what the laws say about "selling" off your only real asset just before declaring bankruptcy.

I think we can base the future success of Vanguard on whether or not SoE's management hires, or at the very least, offers Nino a position. While no one man is an army, Nino comes pretty fucking close.

I think a lot of the folks that were actually behind the game should(and probably will) be picked up by SoE. It'd be a monumental waste of money to move people over from other SoE projects, or hire new blood, when they could bring on people that already know the tools/code of Vanguard.

Well that sucks. There were some great people in the developer ranks. But the decision to release in Jan will be looked back as the decision that killed them. To much class nerfing post-release, too many bugs at release, not enough consistent lore, no raiding when it was needed and an uber-grind for crafters -- all these things lead to pop losses. It's too bad because I've had some great times in VG.

Color me dubious that VG can survive this -- but I'm paid up until June so we'll see. Maybe if they merge all servers into one?

Both, but as we all know the bosses usually get away with the gold while the peons just get handed off to a new overlord with a different colored whip.

Everyone, right now. Give it up to Neric and that other flamer Utnayen. Sadly, they were dead on, balls acurate, calibrated by NASA scientists, about Vanguard.

What a god damn shame.

Doesn't seem like much of a victory given these events.

Did they literally bring the entire company out to the parking lot and told everyone they were fired and to come back tomorrow to see if SOE wants them? and in some cases, wants them back? I'd say at least 1/3rd of the people there left SOE to work for Sigil.

On one hand I feel bad for you guys, on the other, really really glad I never took a job with them. The MMO industry is a bitch. A lot of those employees are going to be screwed for years to come.
