I have to admit I wanted Nino to take over as lead on VG too ;p Barring that its almost better to just replace the entire management team. No offense to Gilbertson or whoever is in charge now--but maybe bringing in fresh blood at the top would be a good thing(tm).

In any event like Kcxiv I have no ill will towards Brad -- I think VG was his second system -- and he just didn't have the management training to recognize that. The project should have been much, much smaller to start with. It is also clear that there are other people responsible for the mis-management (see fresh blood comment above). So it goes.

I continue to enjoy the game despites its flaws but recognize that it could be much better had it been better managed.

And I look forward to hearing about Nino's new project--need a lawyer who isn't Cali bar admitted ;p ?

I wouldn't have locked the doors and tell them outside the building.

Or Brad's role itself should have been smaller, more focused. When you spread yourself too thin you don't end up being much good at anything, nor do you play to your strengths.

In a sensitive trade like software and IT, the potential for theft and/or revenge is very high. Someone could walk out with a disk full of secret sauce or launch a virus or sabotage something etc.

Risk for anything is extremely high. This is why people in these fields who get let go are lucky if they get to clean their own desk, and when they do it's under supervision.

Agreed, you would be finding people trying to take Ram, Hard drives, LCD screens, or even behind the scenes code. The chaos would be endless.

Yep,at my old job they did just that. Hammer fell friday, you had 10 min topack your shit supervised and escorted to the door. And this was in engineering not IT. There was alot less for us to sabotage.

That is why I prefaced my comment with top secrets or viable projects. Not here. This wasn't planned on the same day. Management knew it was coming. They could have locked down computers if they were really worried about theft.

People aren't stupid. When you do something like that they know something is happening. Which ultimately makes it even less dignified.

I've worked at large companies when a lot of people were fired. Anyone that didn't make the cut were not let past the initial security. So basically they couldn't go into the building. It's a pretty standard practice.

What's surprising is the decision to do it on a Monday. Usually something like this would be done on a Friday.

It's kinda funny talking about it because I was also let go of today. No fault of my own, just the usual company "restructuring" bullshit rendering my position unneeded. The quickest way of getting over it is to find something else. I hope the ex-Sigil people are kinda looking at it that way too.

At least I won't have to set my alarm for a couple of mornings at least.
