Someone mentioned the credits in the manual. According to those, there were 27 Game Designers of various ranks working on the project, 11 Programmers, and a database guy.

Now, I'm not an industry guy, but I'm in a GA Tech grad program very heavily affiliated with game design, and I've assisted in a couple of different research gaming projects on campus (one of which was MMO design). 27 designers is alot, even for a published game. Those are the sorts of numbers you see on EA titles, and EA is well known for throwing manpower at a problem rather than common sense. I'm sure they were each given very specific functions over which they were responsible, but even so with 27 people that's an awful lot of prototyping to juggle around, and I'm betting the design meetings were an epic affair. It's also a whole lot of ego, because everyone wants to see their baby (ie. pet idea of the week) implemented exactly as designed. Meanwhile, the code guys struggle to keep it all working together.

With a design staff over twice the size of the code staff, it's little wonder to me that the product shipped buggy. I'm sure they added more bugs with every content dump than they fixed.

I'd like to see future mmo's adopt some of the VG features. I hope they learn from the mistakes as well.

Brad is the Bob Saget of MMO's.

The only logic I can see behind SOE's crazy decisions would be future driven. Perhaps they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for talent for a future project...

...or they are assembling a specialized team to resurrect dead and abandoned MMOs and make them profitable. A few drastic rules/mechanics changes can make or break a game. With enough experience, I can forsee a specialized crack team taking a lost MMO, working on it for 3 months, and producing something profitable.

Its clear from his gamespot comments that Sigils team will be fully merged with SOE eventually and moved to other MMOs as needed. They're probably only keeping it sorta seperate right now because of things like lease obligations and finding room at the other SOE studios.
That is exactly how I see it. While this is good news for people who play VG because they will still keep the power on to the servers, how can they justify spending big bucks on it? My guess is that they will have 2 or 3 servers for the real fans but will not market it like they do with EQ2, Gods and Heroes, or the yet to be named projects.

Plus, they get some Developers to provide maintenance support for VG and their old products. This will free the current staff to work on new projects. When I worked in engineering for Sybase our Team wanted to work on the new projects. We used some of our Consultants and new hires to work on bug fixes for the old engine.

...but I feel that history will vindicate me. If you want a game, I suggest Guild Wars. I was designing a world, with flying cities and underwater kingdoms like nothing you'd ever seen. Sure, we fell a bit behind schedule, and the engine needed a bit of tweaking, but we were well on our way until you non-believers, Blizzard shills, Sigil haters and various other idiots ruined the game! Spreading your lies about Vanguard all over the internet managed to kill this game in the womb, thank you very ****ing much. With just 8 or so months of subscription revenue, the game would have been profitable, and well on its way to realizing Sigil's ultimate vision for it. But no, all you whiners and haters had to rag on the game until it died. It was by far the best game out there since the original Everquest, with a huge world, immersive lore, beautiful graphics and open-ended gameplay, but you bastards had to shit on it until it died. You've all deprived the world of a great piece of art, you ****ing philistines, as well as ruined my life's work. If there's a hell, I hope you all burn in it.

...but I feel that history will vindicate me. Hmm if this is really Brad.

Yeap. I have a feeling as time goes on there wont even be a newbie isle. Fay and Neriak are a good start in eliminating it.

I Know its Not Brad, But Can Hear Brad, Spinning it, In 1 of his long winded Posts, where he Basically says Nothing But Spins it on Blameing SoE for His Vision not being allowed to work in Direction of game as why game failed.

Know that post was Joke But could see Brad saying that, their Irony in that is Brad Made tons of Money on eq 1 and expansion before he left got Some Eq 2 money on orginal idea, and Vanguard, so he Probally drinking at the Club somewhere Not even careing about it.

However When he does Post im sure he going to Spin it as Only Brad Or George Bush can.
