theyve been spouting off about _wanting_ a 15 point hard cap on item based mana regen since the very first flowing thought items were put in the game. even to the point of some devs stating it existed, when it hasnt existed for a very long time. IMO its pretty half assed to not get around to actually putting it in the game till now. 15 also seems to be a very arbitrary number, considering the volume of mana regen items in the game its quite possible to reach this number with even a handful of mixed low number FT items. as usual someone pulled a number out of thin air and decided: 15, yea i like that number, who cares if it will only take 2 high end items to reach the cap and make all that persons other mana regen items worthless. par for the course though i suppose.

15 is really not so arbitrary. Most coding of numbers works on 1) counting from 0 2) powers of 2 With that in mind, 15 is just a power of 2, if you count from 0. 0-15 is 2^4. Its the same with the stat cap on items... 127.

If I'm recalling the issue correctly, the fictitious cap of 15 on FT that was trotted about by misinformed dev's was arrived at fairly less scientifically. Sometime, a year and a half ago, long before SoL, when Cazic Thule's loot table was upgraded and various Velious bosses were first getting downed regularly, various Flowing Thought effects weren't stacking. I.E. FT1 from uber_loot01 + FT1 from uber_loot02 != FT2. So when the "max ft is 15" statement was made, it was just an outgrowth of what was available. you could theoretically have one ft1 item, one ft2 item, one ... etcetera. Summing, if you stopped at Essense of Nature (from the as-then-yet-to-be-killed-but-still-in-the-game goddess of tree huggin' port-ho's Tunare), at 15 added mana regen. I'm not making excuses for them, they should have probably removed their feet from their mouth's publicly when the stacking issues were resolved, and saved everyone a lot of confusion. The new (oh, and it is new), arbitrary cap of 15 FT is just that. Arbitrary. From what I can see, its just there to keep the need in place for casters to med at all, or at least to keep them sticking quarters in the botted magicians. 15 as a cap COULD be justified mathematically, but its bullshit. 15 is just the number folks were comfy with. *hugs to all, pls go ninja hps from the melees, buhbye!*

it seems arbitrary, because there was no cap, and then there was a cap.. at 15.. why 15? why not 20, 25,30? etc... is why it seems arbitrary, and the point is valid: you can achieve ft15 w/o the super high end encounters, thus watering down those caster who have been apart of the super high end kills that yeild much higher FT # items. so, in the end it doesnt matter if you have 7 FT2 items on you, or 3 FT5 items: you are capped - you are a part of a uniform mediocrity, due to this 'arbitrary' limitation. add to this, the coldain shawl / aten neck wont stack over the ft15 cap (it should).
