human economics vs. Yantis/IGE

After reading all this Yantis/IGE crap I know how I've felt about the selling of anything EQ for RL cash all this time since it started, it's the debil.. I always saw it as negatively affecting the game I enjoyed because rl money should not become a factor in the ability to attain things in a world that's supposed to be separate from the real world we live in. That's been the exact issue right there.

Basically to advance in EQ it's expected that you do it on your own or you join a guild and advance your character through friends legitimately inside the game. That's what we expected.

The fact real world money spilled over into the game made me start thinking. This is a complex debate over how real life is a double standard vs how we expect things to be in EQ. In RL we buy and sell things and money is a factor but WHY don't we expect to advance ourselves alone or with friends/family the same as we expect in EQ? Why do we buy/sell things in the real world when essentially we could all work together as a unified race sharing and helping each other?

I think the reason why that doesn't work is because it's human nature. I put the simulation to work in my head where everyone works together sharing things and we as a civilazation across the globe help each other yet nothing is ever bought or sold. I came across the flaw when one man has a woman and another man wants her. Right there it falls apart once people start resenting each other and stop helping each other.

I also thought about the necessity of buying/selling to advance the civilization. If no one could gain from making something new people would want then why would someone want to make something new other than out of the goodness of their heart. If someone can make something and others want it they would trade him for his new product.

In the end I related this to EQ by asking myself:

IS buying/selling game items right or wrong since it is the same thing we do everywhere else in life?

My thoughts above are just my own ideas... They aren't firm beliefs so I don't expect you all to buy into them. Actually I would enjoy seeing other ideas or theories that proved/disproved my own.

I read that whole thread already and decided this was a separate topic.

That's topic is specifically about Yantis selling for 10 million $.

This topic asks a deeper question about our ideas and practices in rl and how they apply to our ideals and practices in EQ.

"Raid on the local wachovia at 2 pm sharp. Might get some police officer uniform drops, plz come if you're not keyyed up for our jailbreak next week."

You can't really raid real life goals. In play you might rely on other people to help you achieve character goals, but in work nobody'll be stepping down because you have more raid points, and so deserve that promotion more than them..

Do you really need to make a thread to have someone explain Common Sense and The Obvious to you?

If you've had any advanced math they have these things called proofs. They prove why the derivative works or why sine's derivative is cosine etc etc etc.

There's always some guy out there trying to figure out if there's a better way to do things and to do that he seeks to understand the true fundamentals in simplest for to prove or disprove the theory.

I'm just looking to see if there is a better way. I think that's what they call out of the box thinking eh???

It used to be common sense that the world was flat, that earth was the center of the universe, then that the sun was the center of the universe etc etc etc ad nauseum.

Someone out there stopped to think about things deeper and the world was proved round and the center of the universe is pretty far away from here.

10:30 am and it's already time to start drinking! Booyah.

Dude, it's a fucking VIDEO GAME. What's good, right, and morale to you, might not matter to anyone else. If the game is about in game 'friends', you should care less about people buying loot and enjoy your time in game with your friends earning said loot.

Yes, thank you for reminding us that such things exist. While the existance of mathematical proofs is all well and good, you haven't established any sort of criteria for anything you're discussing. Do proofs exist? Yes. Have you proved anything? No.

The fundamental problem is that you're attempting to compare unrelated situations in an analagous manner. As others have stated, we simply don't go around raiding stores to take what we want, we don't gear up to fight some universal evil. We work so we have a nice place to sleep, fancy televisions, snazzy cars, good food, decent education for our children if we have them, and so we can pay our bills. Incidentally, those particular motivating factors don't exist in EQ. Houses don't exist, taxes don't exist, insurance bill don't exist. We have no RL resonsibilities (and isn't that the point of playing a game?) so we can wander around and kill nasties and get loot.

If you want to discuss the possibilities for a non-capitalisitic system, thats fine. Just don't base it on EQ.

You can't come to an ethical conclusion through math, unless you buy into Mills' utilitarian framework, wherein the right decision is the one that brings happiness to the greatest number of people.

Seriously, you people that get upset because people buy and sell items need to get over yourselves. Who the fuck cares? It doesn't effect you in any way. I always see you bumblefucks getting upset because you see a listing for 1000 DOLLARS OMG OMG OMGROLFLES!!!! STFU and play the game, jackass, and mind your own damn business.
