+5 Internets | Here's a thought.... what engine does WoW use? Is it their own built-from-nothing engine? I really have no clue about such things. And what engine does a game like, say, LOTRO use? |

WoW their own Lotro Modified AC2 engine. At least that is what I have seen said here.

| I seriously hope this project is breaking away from the usual open-world structure of MMOs. Because if it isn't they just signed THE WORST POSSIBLE choice of engine for their game, IMHO. |

In the end this was by far the best solution(s) for many of our questions going forward. Unreal allows for rapid prototyping, which has to happen to drive out risk as fast as humanly possibly. There is so much to the core game that we must validate now, today, before we even approach the 'cool' stuff. This core game stuff has to be the end all be all regardless of how 'mundane' or 'simple' it might be. Being able to get these things up and running will allow us to spend YEARS vetting. If it stops being fun, and part of it, a year or two from now, we're negligent if we think it will be fun for you. Unreal allows this to happen, not to mention they are some pretty cool people. Bigworld was a no brainer. It's shipped games (which you may find it hard to believe is rarer than you might think) and it's so deep and thorough in it's server side solutions and tech that I think we all knew from day 1 we'd go that route. What we did after that was spend literally a year seeing every other possible solution, from Crytek to Hero and more. I am pretty confident we saw and got into every solution being offered. Might seem trivial but this was a huge step for us. Oh and the fact that in doing this we now have a world you can actually log into, and run around in!! (And I may be biased but it's stunningly gorgeous!)

| On The Neverending MMOG Merry-Go-Round | I think what is being referred to is VG's usage of the unreal engine (albeit an earier version) and how they could never get a open seamless world to work properly with it. I think he is implying that if it happens as such again you would need a world with clear zone lines. But I could be wrong.

+25 Internets | I think people are tried of gorgeous worlds that have very little substance behind them and can't be run adequately on a good portion of people's computers. And OEE? does the world really need another buzz word? |

| So was VG:SoH, DnL, EQ2. Unfortunately when you have a few people running around on high power machines it all looks good with no hitching / lag. Now throw in a few hundred - thousand and lets see what happens. Of course as the above games proved good looks does NOT make a good game. Wishing you luck if you are already starting to hype the graphics before the game play.

| i believe ngruk is a firm believer of gameplay over graphics,, now if we can get gameplay With Graphics, then we might get something. unreal3, i believe, runs pretty good on most mainstream computers with a decent video card... now make sure it runs pretty good with 40+ characters on screen.. |

An engine is a starting point. What a company does with that engine beyond the point of acquisition (add features, remove features, optimize, etc.) is up to them.

| Just as long as when I jump it doesn't look like my character is simultaneously trying to take a shit at the same time I'm ok. Seriously. There's no good reason why my left arm should go Bob Dole on my ass for catching some air. Keep in mind, I jump a LOT. In fact, if you guys make it to where jumping is even better than it is in WoW, I'm sure you'll have a #1 game on your hands.
