| Canada Goose jackets So I decided to give winter the middle finger and sprung for one of these jackets. Does anyone have experience with them? I am somewhat nervous because I heard they run slightly large and the smallest I could buy is a small so hopefully it isn't bulky on me. Since they use real coyote fur maybe I'll get tomatoes thrown at me by PETA. SSENSE - CANADA GOOSE - Chilliwack Black Jacket |

| Apparently it keeps you so warm and toasty it feels like a full torso blow. These jackets are apparently standard issue for expeditions to the Antarctic and arctic circle. Supposedly as long as you don't treat it like shit the manufacturer says it'll last a lifetime. -edit- I also had a coupon for 20% off. I know it seems expensive but hopefully it's an investment in comfort I hate being bitter cold.

+66 Internets | I hate anything with fur like that, whether fake or real. I don't give a shit about the ethics, I just think fur is ugly and tacky (with maybe the exception of some hats, that I would never myself wear). It's one thing to have some faux fur lining around the collar or something, that's always nice, but the big ring around the hood look I can't stand personally. Never heard of that brand in particular. Honestly, that jacket isn't meant to keep you warm, it's a fashion item. If warmth is your primary concern, get something from Patagonia, Cloudveil, North Face or other similar brands. Personally I have a Karbon jacket and pants that I use for skiing that will keep me toasty at -30C w/ strong winds (it's your face and extremities that are the problem then). It was nearly a grand for the pants and jacket, but it's now been through nearly 100 days of skiing and it's holding up incredibly well, considering how rough skiing can be (tree branches, rocks, ski edges ripping the leg cuffs etc). Also keep in mind the jacket you're looking at is genuine duck down, so maintenance is a pain. Typically most out door wear these days is entirely synthetic, the materials are just plain better. If this jacket is primarily for wearing during brief forays outside from your car to a building etc in the winter and not long term sustained outdoor use, then great pick whatever looks nice but still gives a bit of warmth. I live in a very cold climate, and even in the dead of winter I'll often only wear a light hoodie or something since I park indoors at home and work. Kinda cool, but some work clothing stores around here are starting to come equipped with freezer wind tunnels to test clothing out in. Semi-unrelated, but it's a good idea. | Well yeah obviously I also got it because it looks nice. I don't like massive puffer jackets despite what I've heard about their ability to keep someone warm. Cloudveil was a brand I looked at but I didn't like the look of any of their stuff and the price was fairly similar. I also can't wear North Face because I've grown to despise people in them. The main purpose behind this is because I haven't owned an actual winter jacket since high school. Generally I just wear a hoodie with a pea coat ontop of it. It keeps me fairly warm but it becomes hard to drive because my arms feel so weighed down and constrained by wearing layers. I'm somewhat surprised you haven't heard of it. Maybe because I know you ski generally when outdoors and the Canada Goose products aren't really designed to ski. From what I've heard online their outdoor comfort is almost unparalleled. |

+66 Internets | Hmm, I thought the brand was Ssense, which appears to just be an online retailer which I hadn't heard of. I hadn't heard of Canada Goose as a brand either, but looks like they do make a lot of outdoor wear. I get all my stuff from the following places typically, and I don't believe either carries Canada Goose: CVhome Outdoor Gear - Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) - Équipement d'activités de grande nature I agree to some small extent about North Face, no question that it's been "co-opted" or whatever you want to call it by people who've never seen a mountain, let alone climbed one. But they do still make some pretty good stuff, at the high end anyway, in terms of clothing (their middle range stuff you'll see at department stores is generally crap) And their other stuff like tents, sleeping bags etc is still very good. |

+8 Internets | I can't speak for the quality or level of warmth, but I don't think it's a particularly good looking jacket -- the patch on the arm and fur on the collar are kind of a turn off for me. I guess it depends on what situation you are using it for though. I always wear an overcoat or peacoat for most formal or dinner situations and when I'm out skiing or shopping or whatever I typically just stick with Patagonia / North Face since they make slim fit models. I guess post some fit pictures once you get it and let us know, I think for $500 you can get something much nicer though. |

| I'm sure it's just a matter of personal style and taste if you think it looks good or not I really just wanted to know if anyone could comment on it's comfort and warmth. I don't think Canada Goose is that popular in the States but I know they are very popular over in Europe. The jacket I just bought can go for around 650-700 pounds in the UK. The reviews I've read have been generally favorable and just to see if anyone had actual experience. I can post some pictures up once I receive the item. |

+12 Internets | I haven't worn the CG ones, but I spent just over $400 for a North Face down jacket right before I went snowboarding in NorCal/Utah last year. The first weekend out there we were at Mammoth, and it was absolutely fucking freezing, combined with crazy high winds (summit was closed the first day) and snowing it's ass off. Couldn't see ten feet in front of me most of the day, and that jacket was absolutely warm as hell. You get what you pay for, and the entire week out there I never regretted dropping the coin on it for a second.

+66 Internets | Nice nice, I'll have to bookmark that site and check it regularly. Not really needing much right now, but you never know what can come up. Not to mention now that the loonie is up near par again, it makes sense to buy shit out of the US again as well. Clothing, outdoorwear etc is still 20-40% more expensive here, fuckers. |
