+20 Internets | HDMI vs Composite For 360 Here's the situation: I have one of the first gen 360s and it does not have HDMI so I connect to my HDTV via component cables. I also have a PS3 connected via HDMI. When buying new games I'm always struggling with which platform. My assumption has been that HDMI basically provides better image quality over component so by default I buy for the PS3 unless I am playing with friends. But is that really true? Would I really notice any difference? I'm mostly concerned about upscaling issues because most games still don't support true 1080p resolution. I've been looking around at this issue but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. Maybe there isn't one. In any case, I'd like to hear some opinions on what people here think. Thanks! |

| I notice it on the 50 inch I have my computer hooked up to sometimes but I can't tell the difference for any consoles.

Just like the people who buy those $2000 power cords "swear they work". As I said, if I did a blind study, I guarantee the results would be "people can't tell the difference". Anyone remember the name of that study that showed the average consumer can't even tell the difference between SD and HD? (hilariously true), expecting to see a difference between 1080p over component vs HDMI is just unrealistic. Last edited by Darus Grey; 10-23-2009 at 02:00 PM..

| Unless you have some amount of signal loss over your component cables, there is likely NO difference in the resulting signal. Whether the picture matrix is encoded in an analog fashion or a digital one makes no difference. I'm going to go ahead and speculate that none of you with component cables (unless they are defective) have any signal loss. |

There is nothing psychological about that.
