+25 Internets | Nook (B&N ebook reader) Nook, eBook Reader, eBook Device - Barnes¿&¿Noble Looks pretty nice for the price. I had to stop myself from impulse preorering one. Will wait until next week at least to make sure I don't have second thoughts. The short of it is that it has .pdf support and is half the price of the Kindle DX. I'm paying $25 a month to bookswim atm (too lazy to go to library) so if I cancel that it should pay for itself within a year. Thoughts? |

| I see that they have listed '500,000 free eBooks' but I'm curious about the price of all the other books. Plopping down 260 bones ain't that bad if I'm expanding my brain by reading whenever it's convenient, but if I have to add on 15-25 bucks every time I want a book, that's a whole nother story. So my question is how easy is this shit to pirate? |

+2 Internets | If it is anything like amazon you just send an email with the book you want converted and they do it and mail it back in a few mins. Before demonoid crashed I was seeing amazon format books uploaded. My wife loves her Kindle. Hell we have already saved the cost of the kindle in books she has read this year. |

+25 Internets | Native .pdf should make pirating a little easier I imagine. I wonder how B&N ebook selection compares to Kindle though for legitimate purchases. Also wondering if I can sync/transfer files over a network. I guess miniUSB is easy enough but it's yet another cord perpetually laying on my desk. |

+19 Internets | I've given serious thought to snagging an ebook reader, but i'm just not sure yet. It's hard to drop $260 now when I can save that money towards a Microsoft tablet next year sometime. What is the purpose in using e-ink rather than a normal screen? Is it cost, or is e-ink better for readability or something? |

+25 Internets | There's a few major advantages. One is battery life. These things can go for weeks and weeks without needing a charge compared to a tablet which won't make it through a single day of typical use (maybe very high end tablets would but nothing near e-reader price range). Second is readability. They display similar to paper meaning you can read them easily in any light (most notably under direct sunlight). From what I hear they can be easier on the eyes too. |

For the e-ink question, try to find someone with a Kindle already, or if you're on the fence, go into B&N after they release this. It is pretty much just like reading a book, very easy on the eyes, and you can adjust the font size as needed. | |

| A feature that I just read about, and that makes this a must buy for me is that you can stream ANY book in its entirety while in Barnes&Noble. That is ridiculously killer as I tend to spend a ton of time at B&N studying / getting coffee. Quote:

| You guys think this would still be a good device in another country? I'm in Korea, and there's plenty of WiFi and 3G all over, but I'm not nearly tech savvy enough to guess as to whether or not it'd play nicely over here. This is part of the reason I asked about pirating books, in case the internet aspect didn't pan out. |

| Just curious, why do you guys prefer these over real books? I go to a used bookstore or go to amazon.com and get books pretty cheap $4 or so. On Amazon I get lots of books for 1 penny + $3 shipping. And I personally enjoy being able to take a book out at anytime and not have to worry about the battery running out or anything. I understand books on tape, which are cool when you are driving cross country or something but an ebook I just don't get the draw of them over physical books. So what are the pros of reading a book like this? I am curious.
