I have an Iphone 3g, curve 8310, and an unlocked G1. Of all three, the G1 has to be my favorite, and it's because of Android. The phone I use the most is the iphone because the G1 doesn't get 3g on At&t sadly. My gripe with the iphone is how unreliable the apps are. Sometimes they work, sometimes they load for 1 second, then crash back to the home screen. It's very annoying and the only way I have found to fix it is to delete the app and redownload it. But at the same time, the iphone has the best apps and on android there just aren't any alternatives.

The push email for the iphone works amazing now. I get the email notification on my phone before my computer notifies me. The same for the G1.

I have been using the iphone since release day. It's the only phone I have owned for longer than a year. The typing on it becomes second nature and you get really good at it. The only time I make errors is while driving. Typing is the same on the g1, you have a physical and touch keyboard. I can't stand the blackberry, the keys are too small for my hands. Maybe I need the bold.

What I like best about the G1 is the integreation with google services. Google voice works so well with it. You can set it to automatically use your google voice number when you make a call, or send a text. Or you can set it to ask you every time if you want to use GV.

Are you paying for these apps that crash all the time? I found the ones that crash more than the others are the free ones.

I didnt think I would use the iPhone for the internet browser when I bought it, but now, its amazing. Being able to surf on either the mobile site, or the original is pretty awesome.

Ebay, Bank of America, Skype, Mint.com, iheartradio. I don't have any paid for apps. It could be that, but they seem to be pretty big name companies

As Empire said it seems like a lot of them are free apps that crash a lot. Although it does seem that sometimes the iphone has some problems fully clearing the memory after closing an app. Programs like memoryinfo can be pretty handy for a 3G iphone. A big reason I did upgrade to a 3GS from a 3G was due to the fact that it has a lot more available ram. Ive had maybe 1 app crash in 3 months ive had my new phone, whereas with the 3G id have to do a reset about once a day to free up memory so some graphically intense apps wouldnt crash after playing another game.

I have verizon and I can't imagine getting anything other than an Iphone when I decide to get a new phone, unless I hear a very convincing argument. The thing is just amazing, few of my friends have them. I would have bought the Storm if that wasn't a piece of shit, and I really don't have much hope for the storm2, especially since I don't feel like waiting for verizon to emerge from behind the app curve.

PS: Yes I know, I need to change to AT&T for the Iphone. My contract is just about done already.

I want to second this. I absolutely LOVED my G1, but I can't really use it now since I consolidated my personal phone into my companies AT&T plan. I ended up buying an iphone, and it really does the things that I "need" it to do and has some fun games, I often times feel like I'm playing with a toy more than enjoying my phone with extra features.

Sadly, AT&T's signal quality has gone down hill over the last months in my area (near a major MS campus) since they have a big contract to sell AT&T phones to their employees. I dropped T-Mo because they didn't want to even check my signal quality at my house, stating that "our maps show good signal there"

Im pretty sure Verizon already said that in January, they will have the iPhone on their network. I dont think the 4G will be out by then, but the 3GS will be, and then the 4G when its available.

I don't know if it will by then. This post has a little info regarding that:

Rumor Has It: Verizon and Apple Testing iPhone LTE

This was another article that said what a good idea it would be for Verizon to get the iPhone and how horrible it would be for AT&T's subscriber numbers.

Analyst: Apple Would Benefit From Verizon iPhone Deal | John Paczkowski | Digital Daily | AllThingsD

Interestingly enough, though, the Verizon Droid television adds seem markedly anti-iPhone, so no idea what that would do to relationships.

Highly doubt that. If you're thinking some variant of 3GS it'd mean them ordering CDMA radios and drastically changing the network stack just for one network? With GSM you have the world appeal. You make a phone for AT&T and the same manufacturing process can be used to provide one for one of the other hundreds of GSM networks out there. Verizon isn't getting a 3GS next year. I'd put money on that.

If you're thinking 4G/LTE then it'd be a repeat of the AT&T debacle: Releasing a phone on a totally unproven network. Even if they do launch LTE next year I'm sure they'll want to have as little LTE handsets on it as possible to do as much testing and allow them to gradually increase it's coverage. At least LTE will be worldwide though so Apple could make an iPhone based on that cell tech and not have to change their manufacturing process.

Sorry, no Verizon iPhone till earliest 2011

I wonder how Verizon is going to handle andriod phones and stuff like that? How is there data plans and what will they allow as a marketplace? Verizon is pretty big on taking a phone that has a ton of features and shitting on it until it's only worth using it for making calls and texting.

Sorry for the derail, but I was wondering if they plan on dropping their business model for something that's not from the 90's.

I think that it's a completely valid question. One thing to note though is that their WinMo phones aren't completely shit on. I have no idea about the BB's that they have, but I'm hoping that the Android phone follows that same line of actually being it's own device instead of having to deal with the Verizon proprietary bullshit.

One interesting question: What are they coing to do about the Android Market. Verizon has been huge on locking down phones to only purchase apps through their shitty app market.
