Storm2

Yes the title of the thread is correct. They are marketing the new Storm as the Storm2, not the Storm 2 (or Storm Next if it was released by SOE).

It releases at the end of this month, and some videos showing off it's new hardware and OS are out. I really can't wait for this to replace my old Storm. It looks like they got it right this time. With double the internal memory, faster processor, better touchscreen and Wifi, I think this is what the Storm 1 should have been

That was the best of demos. Basically hes saying that the phone finally does what other phones already do.

I still dont like that delay on the touch screen of the Blackberries and the touch screen keyboard with two letters on each key seems kinda weird too.

I like my Storm, the only complaint I've had is the lack of memory but uninstalling a lot of shit I didn't use helped alleviate most of that.

The 2 letters thing is an option you can turn on or off. I have qwerty on both portrait and landscape on my Storm.

Well I am sold. This was really my only beef with the phone.

I have an iPhone 3GS but I'm thinking of getting the Storm2 also for my business phone. The one thing that's throwing me off is the typing. I just can't see how having to click twice to type is intuitive. Mind you I haven't used the Storm before so this is based on what I've seen and read. I just feel like my natural typing on the iPhone would conflict on the Storm2 with it actually having to press the screen in.

There really isn't "Clicking twice". You can just touch the screen to select something but for typing it's just press down. It just a natural motion when you are pressing on the screen, just different than an iPhone.

I have used both and it doesn't throw me off at all. I like the Storm's screen for typing. I got used to it and now I am about as fast on it as I am on a regular Blackberry keyboard.

Any idea if VZW will be doing special pricing for Storm 1 users? I'd love to pick the new one up after seeing how responsive it is but I'm not about to shell out $500 for it. Looks great otherwise.

Nothing other than their standard $100-200 with a 2 year contract. Might check and see if your line is up for renewal, which it probably isn't since you got a Storm which is about a year old...

They will probably be running a Buy One Blackberry get another free deal though.

BlackBerry Storm 2 Review | CrackBerry.com

Closing thoughts from the review:

With a new device like the BlackBerry Storm2, it's going to take some time to work through every feature and improvement to see how they play out with extended use. That is exactly what we'll do, but as you just read my initial impressions are very positive.

The Storm2 fixes many of the BlackBerry Storm's outstanding issues and makes a ton of incremental improvements, all of which add up to something that feels noticeably better. In a way that never quite applied to the original Storm, the Storm2 could legitimately be called the flagship BlackBerry.

If you're a Verizon or Vodafone customer jonesing for a new touchscreen smartphone, you'll want to line up the day the BlackBerry Storm2 goes on sale and get one. Period.

Being on Verizon I kind of want to know how the new Moto phone will shape up before I jump, if any official announcement is ever released. BB has always been better on the enterprise side of things and with the improvements to Storm 2 it may not make a difference.

I'd like to see a write up comparing the storm2 to an iphone. Unless people are saying they're virtually the same phone and/or Verizon prices these competitively with the iphone, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to switch back to AT&T. The only thing that's holding me back from just grabbing an iphone now is that I live in a somewhat rural area and I'm very happy with Verizons service.

I've played around with my friends iphone a few times and that browser looks pretty damn slow, especially considering those pages were mostly (if not all) text, and the fact that he said he was on a wireless network. I'd say that the iphone loads just as fast even if we're driving around and not connected to a wireless network, but like I said since I live in a rural area it isn't uncommon to completely lose the connection. Also, iphones have so many applications like their commercials have ingrained in my consciousness, so I'm not so sure I want to wait for Verizon to catch up.

You better check if AT&T has 3G in your rural area...

There is a map for that.

But seriously, The Storms browser isn't super fast or anything, but RIM just bought a company that specializes in making fast mobile browsers. So we shall see. Also, Flash is coming to Blackberrys soon as well
