| iPhone 3G S vs Palm Pre vs Samsung I7500 Well, it's that time again for a phone upgrade and I would like some advice on which phone to go for. Basically I will use my phone for calling/texting/browsing the net on the go. I'm probably going to be getting myself into an 18 month contract so I would like a phone that will last from both a technology aspect and durability. We have three contenders: Apple iPhone 3G S The newly announced iPhone 3G S, I'm slightly concerned by the lack of hardware upgrades compared to the iPhone 3G, however software wise this is probably king of the mill. Palm Pre Like the look of this and the physical keyboard can be quite handy. Not sure on the screen size though for using touch. Samsung I7500 Samsung's first Andoid OS phone, has the best camera of the lot, OLED display. However, not too sure about battery life. Any suggestions on what should I go for? |

+69 Internets | iphone. Each on their own, you might pick any one of them. But if you had all 3 together, and were able to use them all 3 for a week, you'd pick the iphone. It's just years ahead of the Pre or the samsung. The iphone apps, interface, and formfactor make other phones quite deficient in comparison.

+8 Internets | I'll be buying the Pre this weekend I think. I had an iPhone for about two weeks. My cons were that it was "slow" switching between things, it was made by Apple and it was on AT&T. Honestly, I had no real beefs with the phone itself, I just can't stand AT&T's shit service and I got drunk and dropped in the water off Redondo Beach Pier. After playing with a co-workers Pre today, I'm pretty well digging it. I had like 6 things going and flicked through them in quick sucession without any real lag to speak off. The only delay I noticed was a slight hitch when opening programs but after they opened you could just swap in and out of them. Given the fact I prefer Sprint, my vote is for the Pre ( I have no knowledge of the Samsung). I would assume a good amount of apps will be released over the next month when people get the phone into their hands. |

| I plan on picking the iPhone once my contract with the shitty Blackberry Curve is up. I am over slow website loading and absolutely no java or flash support. Not to mention, the apps on the iPhone are too good to pass up.

+1 Internets | Huh? The 3GS got a new processor, more ram, more storage, higher res auto focus camera, a 7.2 Mb/s HSDPA antenna (up from the current 3G's 3.6 Mb/s), and to top it all off, it gets better battery life! Sounds like quite an upgrade to me. I'd take the new iPhone 3GS over any phone on the market right now.

+4 Internets | I love my 3G right now. Biggest downsides are the complete piece of shit camera (came form a Nokia N95 which rocked). iPhone's camera was terrible when you consider how much better the standard cell camera is these days. The other issue is Bluetooth. I had been so used to swapping pictures out at parties and clubs via Bluetooth to friends. I tried it with my iPhone and fucked with it for an hour before giving up with it. Finally did some research online and found the Bluetooth would only sync for hands-free operation. What a load of shit. Aside from that, the phone was vastly superior in every way. The interface in particular is just so damn fluid. I havent seen anything on the market that comes close. If the camera and BT issues are sorted, I will probably be in line to pick one up.

| Apple still doesn't allow app devs access to the backend, so you cannot switch between applications from what I've heard. That's why it is so sloooow. That said, 50000 apps for the Iphone and less than 100 for Pre. Software is king (wait, does that mean Apple is Microsoft?) |

+3 Internets | The G3S will have P2P Bluetooth and tons of new features. How is Palm going to be on producing new software upgrades for the Pre? I actually like the fact that its Apple working on the iPhone because its their only phone that have to focus on.

| So Apple has a perhaps insurmountable lead. Think back to the 90's when no one put games out on a Mac. Perhaps the same thing will happen today. The point is right now, Apple is the big winner if you need something like a dice roller on your phone. |

+3 Internets | What do you need flash for when you have 16gb minimum and 32gb space?

| If this is your first 3G phone then you might want to go with the Iphone. It doubles as an Ipod. It's got great apps. A very good battery life. The cons are that the apps are slower and it's on AT&T which seems to want to limit the phone like Verizon does with its phones. There's also T-mobile. They'll have a few 3G phones out by the time you're ready to switch. The Andriod OS is pretty cool. I feel like I have more control over what I can do on it. The apps are super fast. The flip up keyboard is what sold me on it. Gmail, and other little perks are cool. Widgets are available for the phone too. The biggest problem with the phone is that the battery stays charged from full for about a day and a half with normal to heavy use. That's due to all the programs being loaded in the background. The performance is better but it kills the battery. Apple said they would never do this to their phone because the same thing would happen. It's too soon to say much about the Palm, but being the 3rd option for phones like these it could really shine. I saw a demo on it's OS for the phone and it looks pretty cool. I don't know much more about it. Battery life? I hope it's better than the G1. |

+3 Internets | Is there a difference? I still dont understand why you would need Flash with 32gb of space.
