That's pretty unlikely unless it was an excellent driver against a shitty driver which basically makes car vs car comparisons null and void anyways.

I don't remember where I read it, it was in one of the major car magazines though.

Everything you read in those magazines is 100% truth and is in no way intended to sell the parts from the vendors that buy advertising in those magazines.

Oh wait.

The one exception is Rally. I thought about buying a shitbox fwd a couple of years ago and competing in some small-time, amateur races. I couldn't find a co-driver crazy enough to do it with me, though.

Back on topic--if you get HID lights, be prepared to be high-beamed constantly. I've passed people on the interstate at night and, seconds later, they'll race up to my bumper, flick their hi beams and blind me to the point that I have to ask Jesus to take the wheel. I try to retaliate, but it's usually a lost cause. Time to install a train horn.

Oh yeah, there's always certain situations where a peculiar kind of car might do better. I used to ice race, in a Chevette. There were 4 classes: Chevettes, Rubber to Ice (pretty much any car goes, no studs), RX-7's (studded), and Unlimited (studded, lots of custom cars). There was lots of overlap, with the Chevettes racing in the two rubber classes, while some of the studded class cars would quickly switch tires to race in a rubber class.

The fastest cars in the Unlimited class of course were AWD custom cars, old Mazda's and god knows what else that were rebuilt with motorcycle engines, or supercharged or whatever.

However in the Rubber class, a lot of the fastest cars were FWD. The couple custom AWD cars that switched tires were the fastest of course, but shit like Rabbits and Neons would clean up on the Chevette's (although the Neons had no excuse not to, having probably double the power).

The most interesting part of course was that AWD, FWD, and RWD cars all take completely different lines around the track, making the first lap or two of the Rubber class with 30 cars bunched up occasionally very messy (In the half dozen race days I made it to, probably saw half a dozen cars roll).

But the point remains that in 95% of cases, FWD is not how you want to put power to pavement.

Again though, done properly they shouldn't be significantly brighter or more blinding to passing motorists. The color is different and it might be a bit more distracting, but most people should be able to tell the difference. I've never had a problem with either of my 3 series and their Xenon headlights.

Trucks/SUV's sometimes I find can be a bit annoying, but the same can be said for them with regular lights as well. It's the height, not the light.

What he said, make sure you have projector housings, make sure they are angled properly, and you'll be set. I've driven behind friends for 30+ miles at night and they said they didn't have any problem with my lights being too bright. Also gotten compliments on them while at the mall later at night.

From living and driving in NC, NY & DC, I think it just depends on how backwoods the area is you're driving in. I didn't have any problems in DC, but rednecks all around NC want my balls on a spit because of my headlights. I really think it's more about the light color they're not used to than the brightness. I'm just saying, if you live in a rural area, be prepared to put up with some level of bullshit.

I have noticed that in my hometown which is rather small and rural. . .but I attributed that more to driving a foreign car in Detroit and being surrounded by redneck HS kids that drive 83 rusted ford pickups vs a 2009.
