| New TV help - Plasma or LCD Hey, Not looking for a real "review" but more of a taste of opinion. Now that we've bought our house, I finally have a wall to stick a fairly big tv onto. I'm trying to decide on A) Plasma or LCD B) Which one. We'll be watching blue rays for the bulk of its use (finally get some use out of my ps3) and then probably start buying some PS3 games since I'll have a decent set to play on. I want to find the best bang for my buck in the 50-52 inch range, maxing out (top en) at about 2000$ canadian. Thanks alot!

| I like plasma TVs the best. I own 2 Panasonic sets. When I was researching samsung and panasonic had the best screens on the market. Plasma offers better blacks, better side angle viewing and no motion blur. (Things that really stand out when gaming) LCDs consume less power and can offer a sharper image. For gaming Plasmas are a lot better I think, the colors are a lot brighter and you have a better range of colors. Reading the gaming posts at LCD or Plasma? Plasma or LCD? and why those Black Bars? Discuss it here only Please - Page 30 - AVS Forum seem to indicate that this is still the case. In general those forums will offer you a lot of pro/con information for models/technology etc if you haven't already visited the site. In general I'd say you will find a lot more videophiles that support Plasma over LCD. Just a plug for Best Buy, I've had good experiences buying from them. It can vary by store/salesperson of course. Even when the screen I wanted was listed as one of their special sells for the time, I still talked them down by about $300 (10% additional markdown). |

| Samsung UN55B7100 VS Panasonic TH-50PZ800U VS Panasonic TC-P50G10 (Fully Calibrated) - AVS Forum has some good LED vs Plasma side by side comparison pictures. LCD will probably take the problems you see with LCD a a bit further, but it gives you an idea of what can be different between the technologies. |

+4 Internets | Cant compare LED vs Plasma, but the LED vs CCFL backlit LCD was a huge difference for me. I primarily use mine watching movies at night and the black levels are astounding. I really hadnt noticed how bad it was until I had the new LED downstairs and moved my CCFL upstairs. When you get a full black screen, its almost as if the TV is turned off, as compared to the CCFL where it never even goes black and looks more like a washed out.. nearly grey color. But, as you said. Price is pretty hefty on the LED screens for now. If you can afford it, I think its well worth it.

| So I started looking into getting another plasma TV this week. The Panasonic V10 looks like where it's at right now for high quality plus great value for the price. It has very high reviews on various sites and is often ranked #2 right below the kuro elites (top rated atm but almost 2x the price) . The 54" just came out a few weeks ago and the 58" and 65" are announced as coming out this month on Panasonic's website. I'm just waiting to see the pricing on those models now. Now to find a good sound system to go along with it =) |

+6 Internets | Was doing research also, and it seems to fall upon what size you want, what you're going to use it for and how much you want to spend. I plan on using it for movies, some TV and probably console gaming once PS3 prices come down/go slim/both. Plan on getting an upscaling DVD player to tide me over til then (Amazon.com: Samsung DVD-1080P9 1080p Upconverting DVD Player: Electronics). After looking around I got my heart set on this... Amazon.com: Samsung PN50B550 50-Inch 1080P Plasma HDTV: Electronics Seems like reviews favor this one a lot and the price seems to be the best anywhere I can find it. If anyone has anything to say about this (these) product(s) I would love to hear it. |
