| Tylenol "Simply Sleep" I've been having a lot of problems getting to sleep lately, and I found this stuff called "Simply Sleep" by Tylenol, offered in the local drug store without a prescription. It's basically Tylenol PM without the painkiller -- just the stuff that makes you fall asleep. It works pretty well, but definitely leaves you groggy the next morning and kind of wishing you hadn't taken the pills. Similar to Lunesta. It's almost a hangover effect, combined with extreme fatigue. I think you're supposed to take this stuff only if you expect to have a good 8 hours to sleep it off, which I usually don't. That could be contributing to the problem. All in all, I'd recommend Ambien or other prescription products if you're having sleep problems. :\ I give Simply Sleep a B-/C+ |

| Yes! I was wondering what was going on there. I get really weird dreams when I take this stuff. Usually very depressing and bizarre dreams. I can't exactly call them nightmares, per se, because they're not traditionally scary. But they're "downers," and typically I'll still be depressed about them for a good 10 to 15 minutes after waking up. |

+64 Internets | If you don't like this stuff for a sleep aid, keep it around for allergies. The active ingredient, Diphenhydramine, is generic Benadryl. You might as well get some use out of it. And yeah, Benadryl does the same crap to me when I use it to sleep. =/ EDIT - Sources Tylenol.com — Simply Sleep Diphenhydramine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

| Be careful with that stuff Millie. I have chronic sleep disorder (average 3-4 hours a night) and used everything from Ambien to Simply sleep. Have you tried Melatonin. It is not strong enough for me on a daily basis but if I dont use it for a year, it works amazingly well for a few weeks. Now I don't know how bad your sleep pattern is, but if its just a case of bad sleep, like you normally sleep well, try melatonin (5mg).

| I normally sleep well; it's mainly a case of having a very inconsistent sleep pattern ever since I've moved out to school. Some nights I go out all night, other nights I have to go to sleep early to get up super-early the next day. There's no set pattern just yet, and lots of chaos getting in the way of establishing one. It's thrown my sleep cycle for a serious loop, and consequently, I tend to get 2-3 hours per night now. Even when I try to fall asleep on a peaceful night. I'd consider melatonin, but are there any side effects? I could have sworn I read awhile back that melatonin was linked to something or other. Not that prescription sleeping pills are safe, either, but just checking. |

| Ambien all the way, granted you can do stupid shit and or text message people things you in a million years would never text someone and wake up and not remember what you said and spend the next three hours apologizing to people

+4 Internets | I go through about a prescriptions worth of Ambien a year. I have a stressful job and sometimes will just wake up and not go back to sleep organizing my next day or what have you. Ambien works for me everytime, I take it very sparingly, 1-2 a month and only when I need it. I tend to be pretty anti-drug for all things, but this is the one thing I make an exception for. It does not leave me groggy the next day, but make sure you are somewhere safe when you pop it, for me it literally knocks me out within 15-30 minutes and I am a big guy. |

| LOL. I've never had anything like that happen to me on Ambien. Usually I take an Ambien and I'm asleep in under 10 minutes. Just enough time to crawl into bed before I'm out. I had no idea people actually stayed awake long enough to get drunk/high/whatever off of it. |

| I havnt been able to find any sleep aids that actually help me. I have a fairly bad condition, I get maybe 3 hours or so on any given weeknight. Weekends I can usually get a bit more though. Any time I try sleepy drugs to help, it seems to make it worse and I get all neurotic or whatever and jittery and end up in a far worse state the next day. Sucks pretty bad though, some weeks/months are worse than others. |

| The idea of taking ambien then trying to stay awake just to see what happens now intrigues me... also its a win win, either I stay awake and see what happens, or I pass out and go to bed right away... either way, I only see good things coming from this... Time to talk to my GP!

I would likely become 100% dependent on it though, so now I avoid taking any pills. The recommendation in the past was that I focus on what is causing me to stay awake rather than try to slap a bandage over the problem itself. Ultimately where I am at right now with the situation is that I look at my bed as a place of frustration (not like THAT, this is about sleep!!) as I know when I lay down I will either sit up for several hours, or pass right out and then wake up a while later and be up until morning. I have done some stupid things to try to sleep too. Not only a few weeks ago on Saturday I had to wake up at around 5AM for a hiking trip with friends. Friday night, knowing that I NEEDED sleep or I wouldnt be able function for hours climbing mountains, I decided to drink beer, rather rapidly. Purely to hope to sleep. I dont have a problem with alcohol, this was just something I did that particular night as I was so worried I would be too tired to climb. Beer isnt exactly smart before a huge climb either... but I figured it was better than zero sleep... this is how bad it gets sometimes... | |

| First time user who actually stays awake 45 mins after dosing, I will find quite impressive as well. I'm currently on a 10mg dosage. Huge advice tip for ambien is never eat anything fatty related before going to bed, it will dissolve slower in your system and you will feel very groggy the next day. If you are drinking before you take ambien, be warned it will hit you really fast and knock you flat on your ass.
