Just seems like something they'll have 2 at per store and half of them will sell them early to resellers on accident so they won't even be available at 8am. Wife tempted to buy 'an xbox for herself' though because of the deal, just so she has a media extender in the bedroom for Netflix/downloaded stuff.

haha I was just thinking this. I think my DVD player is about to go on my 360 and it'd cost basically the same to fix it but I'd be out of my 360 for a few weeks :|

You can't just swap dvd drives in the xbox. They have a unique key that has to match the one on the motherboard

There are quite a few guides on how to replace your busted dvd drive, it just requires the right type of new drive and an sata capable motherboard. gooooogle

I've fixed a ton of broken xboxes. I can tell you first hand without googling that "just requires the right type of drive and a sata capable motherboard" is not true at all.

If plan to swap the drive, you need to dump the unique dvd rom key from the dvd drive itself. If the drive is dead, good luck doing that. Without the key you can't use a different drive with the xbox. gooooooooogle
