Since this thread was bumped, here's some sales news on the PS3 slim so far...

Spike or 2nd wind? How much sales were lost from having the previous SKU's run out? We will probably need to wait a while to get a sense of how good or bad a move it was from Sony. This last third of the year will be interesting, that's for sure.

Ya Sony will definitely be playing the percentage game when these new numbers come out via NPD. It didn't come out at the same time internationally, so people stopped buying PS3s leading to some of the lowest numbers ever weekly, and then a huge surge when the Slim was released, hence the '999% increase!!!'

Well if they wanted to, they could come out and say "Sales surge 18,750% week over week in Japan!" The past couple weeks have been really low in Japan because of SCEJ's refusal to drop price on the PS3 phats, unlike America and Europe.

Still, 150k in 4 days in Japan is hugely impressive. To my knowledge the Wii hasn't reached those kinds of numbers since the holiday season in '07, and most people were predicting in the 50-80k range for the relaunch.

However, I'm sure the numbers will fall back down to reality within a few weeks. But the PS3 should still see a very big holiday season, especially in Japan, when FF13 and if the rumors are true, GT5 release.

Retailers not selling the PS3 Fats for the slim price is maybe due to the fact the retailers would be losing money because they paid more for the fat then it would sell for?

Typically, the reseller/manufacturer will (at least partially) reimburse the retailer when the RRT for a product they have in stock is dropped. Such practices encourage retailers to make much larger orders, which is beneficial for the manufacturer.

Im at a breaking point of buying a PS3 slim now, however finding a copy of valkyria chronicles is just absurd here in Calgary. Arghhhh

Yeah, I couldn't find any in Hamilton a few months after launch. Ended up ordering it off of Gamestop.

I picked up a psfree, well cheap, $150 new. never owned one before, I have no games and don't know what to get. I prefer to play on xbox, so if there's something on both systems I won't get it for ps3. Any suggestions?

BTW I need to get a new tv to play this on, and why the fuck do the jews at sony still only send an AV cable?
