+17 Internets | I can see your point, and it was definitely an adjustment for me going back to normal mode (I pretty much exclusively played -sdem on DOTA for the last long while after years of playing regular mode DOTA and then DOTA Allstars), but I'd be pretty upset if they removed it outright.. I outright prefer it sometimes because, to me, it's just fun to farm up a powerful item build in 20-25 minutes and, if things go badly, you're not stuck with that team/character for another hour. It's not as balanced and it's not the "intended" way to play but it's still fun. I would say I've seen maybe two EM games ever hosted on HoN, largely due to the playerbase who's been invited probably, but it doesn't seem like it will be as EM dominated as public BNet was. |

+19 Internets | This reminds me of the BGH hate starcraft "pros" use to dish out. Overall, I don't care. Game modes like that are generally very fun diversions when you get bored with the same ol' shit the original offers. People who want to play only that are more than welcome too. I can't exactly fault people for playing a game mode they enjoy more than the "original". 'Hey you! Stop playing that game you're having fun with and play this game that'll frustrate you and where we can insult you for having no skills". :P Quote:
In conclusion, the DotA community is retarded and makes the Halo community look incredibly mature.

+2 Internets | This is unfortunately way too true. I'm not sure what it is but DotA is definitely packed full of douches, whiners, and just overall annoying players. The game is way more enjoyable when you know the people you play and you don't have to deal with the people you find in pubs. |

+5 Internets | Been good times so far playing with FOHers. When I'm playing with people I know, I'm much less likely to talk immense trash when I get frustrated (which tends to happen, especially against frustrating heroes like Hammersmith and Scout). |

+4 Internets | Bad thing about beta is it seems like 90% of games have one premade team, so if you aren't playing with a group of friends you will get stomped every time you try to play with pubs. So far, it seems guaranteed I get at least 1-2 people on my team who have never played dota before, let alone HoN ![]() |

-em games also smudge the differences in skill levels between teams, which is why many good players will say -em games require less skill, or really is "easy mode." You can still deny, and you can still last-hit, but it has less of an impact in an -em match, and that's why the difference between an average player and an above average player becomes smudged. There's been quite a few long, in-depth analysis on the modes, and in the end the conclusion is that playing normal mode is more balanced, and will make you a better player in the long run. However, in saying this, -em mode is fun for some players, and that's fine. But it's definitely not "shorter" and actually is an "easier" mode, if we consider easy as meaning skill differences are lessened rather than magnified like it is in normal mode. Finally, yes, the game is balanced for normal mode. In -em, there are huge bias shifts towards AGI and late-game heroes.

+6 Internets | Nah, Midas was never worth it in -em. It used to be damn good in standard games. Back before Treads were buffed and Travels nerfed, and when Midas recipe was only a 1000g upgrade to the 610g Gloves of Haste, the relative cost increase was very small. Midas was at that point only 580g more expensive than old Treads, could be bought a wave or two earlier, and you probably wanted Travels anyway. Nerfs to Midas and Travels and buffs to Treads means that with a few exceptions, Midas is nowadays an item for the math-impaired. |
