+17 Internets | Don't hate on -EM fags, I'm a perfectly good DOTA player but I loved -arem and -apem games on BNet. It's just a lot more fun to pop in and play a specific hero/item build sometimes than a protracted 5 man roaming gankfest that normal mode games often devolve into. Plus if you have a bad game it's over in 20-30 minutes instead of an hour. Nothing I hate more than douchebags who join your EM game on HON just to say how gay EM is and then quit. They really should have left it as SM/Short Mode.. calling it "Easy Mode" just reeks of internet wannabe-badassery. |

Please explain to me exactly how last hitting is no longer a non-factor? I still get MORE money. I still deny XP....I don't get your point at all. You don't like EM, fine, don't play it. But stop tricking yourself into thinking killing creeps all of a sudden becomes stupid.

Not sure on that, I've seen real games with Midas builds.

+4 Internets | If anything, Midas helps a lot more in non-EM games because gold takes so much longer to accumulate and last-hitting matters so much more. The long cooldown means that the benefits in -em are pretty minimal, while an early midas on a carry hero in a competitive game can give him a huge farming edge. I still rarely buy midas, and never play -em, and I wish that mode didn't exist. |

| Anyone having issues with the in-game voice chat? Whenever i hold down push to talk, it usually takes a few seconds to kick in and then proceeds to sporadically cut on and off making it nearly impossible to communicate. |

| EM is not very balanced and I don't think it's much fun, but there's plenty of non-EM games (even pub ones) so I don't see the problem. My faggy EM-only strategy of choice is farming straight to Radiance with Terrorblade, and then taking the usual (Skadi, etc) -- I've had Radiance plus Skadi in about 20 or 25 minutes before. I don't think I've ever lost a pub EM game doing that, after perhaps ten games. You can't possibly sit and farm that long in a normal game barring unique circumstances or really poor-quality opponents. Last edited by Fog; 07-02-2009 at 04:02 PM.. |

+4 Internets | The reason I wish -em didn't exist is that it detracts from the skill of the general playerbase. If a player is used to sitting in lane and getting to level 20 with high tier items regardless of ganks and last hitting, he is going to get wrecked when he tries a non-em game. As a result, if you end up with a player like that on your team, he's going to feed and basically ruin the game. On the other hand, if -em wasn't available, that player is forced to develop a playstyle that fits non-em. This isn't an issue if the player exclusively stays in -em games, but very frequently players think they are good on -em and decide to give non-em a try and end up ruining games. (Obviously, there are plenty of good players who play -em, I'm just saying that in general, a lot of bad habits develop in -em and carry over to non-em games) Additionally, and more importantly, there are tons of players who COULD be great non-em players, but never give it a try. I know when I started playing dota, I randomly joined a game and it happened to be -sm. People in the game told me -sm was the "best" mode and I believed them after I joined an -ap and got owned. I played exclusively -sm for months before I finally tried non-em again, and it took another month or two before I became good at non-em. I was annoyed that it took me months to realize that dota is balanced for non-em, and therefore I wasn't playing the "real" dota. I'm sure many other people have been in my position, and due to the popularity of -em in pub games, I'm sure many people who would prefer "real" dota aren't even aware what they're missing. In the end, the game is balanced for non-em, and that's how it should be played, IMO. |
