+29 Internets | I enjoy MW1 on the 360. I am not the best at FPS games but at least on the console we all are limited by the controller.

| It didn't occur to me before, but when the host person disconnects, we'll now have to deal with the host migration crap interrupting gameplay. I can't think of one positive thing for the customer coming out of this move. What the fuck |

| Yeah this went from a PC purchase to a 360 rental as I'm not suffering through that shit. Is there anything else other than the bf series on the horizon? ID, Valve and SD seem to be going the sp/co-op route atm. |

+71 Internets | So wait, this means the game will be hosted by the players? One dweeb with a 0 ping and everyone suffers his shit upstream? Or does it just mean all the servers are hosted at one place and fuck you if you have a bad connection to it? They took what fucking sucks about consoles, and dumped it on the PC. Yay. +3 Internets | I wasn't even planning on getting this for PC but jesus titty fucking christ, what went into this decision? Only thing I could possibly think of is that they want to combat piracy? Still, even then, you could just delay the game on PC, and still probably make massive sales on consoles like Arkham Asylum did. I'm really not understanding this one. |

I think they (Activision) believes there are enough "casual" (read: people who don't regular a given server) PC gamers or simply fans of the series who are willing to pay 60 bucks for this game, and buy DLC, which they could only realistically 'push' on people through there own matchmaking. They likely see the success on the 360 (2 years never left the top 3 most played games on Xbox live) and figure, there's likely a PC market that'll feel the same way about matchmaking. I'm inclined to believe from a sales perspective, they're probably right. But it's questionable what sort of 'legs' it'll have on PC or what it'll do for the rep of the company for any future titles. For better or for worse, Call of Duty is no longer a PC FPS regardless. Also, Batman didn't exactly see "massive" sales.

| The more I dwell on this, the more it bugs me. Until this announcement, they have basically refused to address any specific platform, only wanting to talk about the game in general. Little did we know, this is because they wanted to make all the platforms identical. Not only has communication been complete shit, but what little communication they have made to the PC community has been misleading at best, and straight up lying at worst. One month ago Robert Bowling (FourZeroTwo) said that PC multiplayer would 'be the same as it's always been'. Does anyone honestly believe that IW.net only came into fruition in the last month? It's complete bullshit. Honestly, I don't think this is to combat piracy at all. And it isn't even really about MW2, it's about MW 3, 4, 5, 6. They want to be able to nickle and dime us for every game after this with DLC. Not possible if they allow those pesky players to create their own content with mods and maps. Also Blank, whats the controversy with L4D2?

I've come to realize that, in general, PC gamers are a bunch of whiny bitches. A platform built on sophistication has devolved into 'waaah, i want it my way all the time or ill cry and spam your forums until i get banned'. Quote:
Yes, that's it. Apparently it was announced 'too soon' after L4D released so it obviously heralded the total lack of support of L4D in favor of saving new content for another game you would be 'forced' to buy. An assumption that has since been proven to be complete horseshit.

While I agree some people are being exceptionally whiny bitches (It is the internet, not really unexpected), it doesn't change the fact that it's an extremely valid complaint. It's not like we're expecting anything extra. We just want what has been the staple of PC FPS gaming for over a decade. As a game community leader myself, it's just not an easy change to go from 5 years of having our own home, to having to depend on randomly made listen servers. How do you build and maintain a community around that? Perhaps it's not impossible, but it's definitely less than ideal to what we have now.

| This Modern Warfare machine has been gaining steam, and gaining steam, selling copy after copy, only expanding its fanbase with every passing month. Why they would do something like this is mind-boggling, considering they knew there would be a backlash. Whoever is behind that decision must have looked over the logistics and figured they could get away with it. Console sales will be strong, but A TON of PC players are NOT HAPPY, and the PC sales WILL suffer unless they change it. DLC is really starting to become a different animal. One has to wonder where the line is drawn..... Would DLC really influence a decision like this? And more importantly, how much DLC should be included with the original game in the first place? Will game studios start releasing "episodic content" rather than delivering a full fledged game with a few add ons, to make an extra buck?
