PS3 (console) question

Chaotic's rant thread got me looking at recent and upcoming 2009 releases, exclusives in particular, and I was surprised to discover that getting a PS3 makes a lot more sense than a 360 now.

Is there any reason not to buy a 20GB PS3 off Ebay, beyond the obvious pitfalls of buying used hardware? I would really like the Emotion engine, don't care about a flash card reader, and I've installed wireless internet for too many other people to ever consider using that shit in my own house so lack of 802.11 doesn't matter to me either. I'd probably end up buying a new HD no matter what so paying extra for a 60GB doesn't seem to make much sense. Is the 20GB console missing anything else that matters?

I don't know if you care or not, but I kick myself over my 40gb's lack of PS2 compatibility.

Emotion engine = hardware PS2 compatibility. I probably should have just said that instead.

And yes, I very much want it. If/when I get the PS3, I will be connecting it to a LCD on my desk instead of a TV almost all the time. Right now I can't play PS2 games like that at all, and it annoys the hell out of me. That's the whole reason I'm looking at Ebay first (well, also because I'm cheap and don't really enjoy consoles enough to justify $400).

Could you post the link to the upcoming games list for exclusives you found? The "RPG YOU MUST BUY" thread for ps3 has me dangerously close to buying one as well

Get the 60gb. I think the old 20gb has a few missing features you may or may not want. I got lucky and got one pretty good price but unfortunately i don't play it much.

EDIT: 20gb has no flash card reader and no wifi.

only missing features I think are the built in SD/misc other format card reader(which *is* very useful), and built in wireless(which sucks anyways).

If the price difference is only $20-$30 I'd get the 60, any more and get the 20 and a USB SD reader.

Category:PlayStation 3-only games - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is what I used.

The main thing for me is Heavy Rain (after Omikron and Fahrenheit I have absolute faith in Quantic Dream putting out a game worth buying a console for), along with L.A. Noire, InFamous, God of War 3, Siren: Blood Curse (not new, but the PS2 Forbidden Siren games were great), and a few others. And yeah, I'd probably end up importing Demon's Souls based on that must-buy RPG thread too.

What's the flash slot useful for exactly? Moving saves around or something? I do already have a bunch of USB drives and SD cards/USB readers laying around the house.

I never use the card reader on my 60 gig. I guess you can put movies, music and pics on a card and play them. But why when you can just stream it through your network.

Only thing I'd worry about is getting a six axis controller instead of the dual shock 3. And ya, I don't even know if my 80gb ps3 has a card reader, I just stream everything from my PC.

Also looks like L.A. Noire isn't ps3 exclusive anymore, never heard of it either way.

I think the card reader was originally included to be more camera-friendly, since you can use USB sticks for moving saves.

I don't want to start a new thread for this since there's already one in the screenshots forum, but here's a FF13 live stream (sorta off-topic):

Watch live video from esegk's ch on Justin.tv

He's putting on the FF13 Versus trailer, too.

Used hardware concerns aside, there is no reason to not buy an older PS3 off ebay for backwards compatibility.

The hard drive uses any SATA 2.5" drive, so it doesn't matter if you get the 20 or 60 other than if you want a card reader and wifi.

I suppose GT5 and God of War 3 are the most significant titles, but they're not confirmed 09. FFXIII is definitely not 09 (not in the USA anyway).

As of late I've been buying more games for my PS3 (MGS 80g) than my 360.

Probably due to the fact my 360 is on the way out. However, I've noticed a lot of good games are coming out for PS3 and it's library of worthy games to own is getting larger..finally.

It was the Blu-ray that actually sold me on the PS3 but if I was going to get one it NEEDED to have BWC. Which the MGS series does.
For awhile, my Blu-Ray collection was much bigger than my games collection though the games are now gaining in number as well.
Some of the upcoming games I'm actually looking forward to, God of War III, some others on the list Vorph posted and some others that I'm trying to figure out if I should get or not.

I have found myself favoring the PS3 over my 360 quite a bit recently.

I recommend getting a PS3 especially one with BWC. With good games out now, and even better ones coming out in the future and Blu-ray... no reason not to get one.

Is there a difference other than rumble? I don't even have rumble on with my X360 controllers so I never bothered getting a DS3.
