No, looking at demonoid and counting seeds/leechers doesn't mean shit. I highly, highly doubt that those guys are hurting at all.

Anyone with a clue realizes that DRM is not the answer. I agree with the Valve exec in that it not only doesn't increase sales, it decreases them. I've specifically not purchased software that went overboard with it (hi2u Spore.) Pirate groups will ALWAYS find a way around it barring specific cases (MMO's, etc.) Why piss off paying customers for no positive end?

Unfortunately, nothing will change. Companies will continue to churn out mediocre games and poorly done console ports. They'll load them up with bloated, ineffective DRM nonsense, refuse to adequately support them with patches and SDKs, then wag their finger at those terrible pirates.
Actually, I can see World of Goo having a high piracy rate. The game is 100% DRM free and it's super small to download.

My Dad, my good friend, and my partner at work all talk about World of Goo and how much they love it.

Dad and friend, I absolutely guarantee they didn't pirate it, they wouldn't even know how to. Partner at work? I doubt highly he did either. He is certainly more tech savvy than the other two but really, he isn't the type of guy who would read any sort of forum like this ever and I'd ultimately bet money that he didn't pirate it either.

But I have to echo the sentiments here that are glad to see Newell state this info. He's the kind of guy that everyone listens to.

It's funny. I'm sort of old fashioned I guess. I simply do not pirate games. And it's really not because of some lack of know-how or even some moral obligation...I guess I just like buying a game and devouring it in total. Because I buy all my games legit, it means I don't buy/play as many games as probably most of ya'll here on FoH. If any random person here made a list of "must haves" I probably haven't played half of them. I like to read reviews and make choice decisions, and I'm happy with that.

But, although I never pirate, even I can see what it has done to the industry. DRM is such the wrong way to go it is almost funny that they do it at all. Spore might very well top my all time disappointment list but a good portion of that is the trouble I had launching the fucking thing....on a legit copy. I'm not nerdy enough to know how or why it wouldn't work (my PC specs were not the issue), but there is a nagging feeling that some of the DRM shit loaded in there just wasn't happy with this that or the other. And since then, there isn't any part of me that can blame any of you for pirating a DRM heavy EA game. I won't personally do it, but I don't blame those of you who do.

My point is basically that even me, a non-pirate, can/could see the writing on the wall and it is refreshing to finally see a big name guy like Newell just flat out say so.

Here's how to change resolution in World of Goo (from Steam Weekend Deal-World of Goo $5! - Page 5 - Cheap Ass Gamer)

u should see this line and change the 800 and 600 to w/e res u want
param name="screen_width" value="800"
param name="screen_height" value="600"

widescreen/higher res works now, mentioning that since there were problems before though and looks great at 1680x1050

Is there anyway to setup the purchase of a game when it goes on sale?

I may not be able to get to a computer this weekend and would like to get Goo for sale price.

Nowadays I'm about 1 to 2 years behind most popular games which means they are 20-30 bucks when I decide to pick them up. If you can deal with not playing the latest shit as soon as it comes out, this is the best way to role, especially with deals like this on Steam. L4D was the last time I payed full price for a game in a very long time.
