Either they added actual CGI cutscenes in this one or upgraded the graphics for the entire thing significantly. Either way, $$

Looks like CGI. Fun times.

They said that they updated the graphics in this one considerably. They also said they took care of texture popping which is all it needs as a graphic upgrade for me. That shit gets kind of annoying.

Was worried that Sheppard was dead like it was mentioned in the first trailer.. good to see we will be play as him/her again.

Wonder if we will be able to pre-load the old ME1 save, so unlikely tho.

But where is Wrex? Every bioware game desparately needs its Wrex/Mandalore/Canderous. If I can't drag around my lawful evil character, I get severely distraught.

Did I miss something or what in the first game? Why are people wondering/trailer saying if Sheppard is really dead?

The very early teaser for Mass Effect 2 showed Shepard's life signs going flat, right before a Geth shoots at the screen. Judging by the reaction from the Asari member of the Council, I'm thinking Shepard was believed dead by most of the galaxy because of something that happened between Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. Developpers said we would play as Shepard during a significant chunk of Mass Effect 2 but that his mission would be a bit of a suicide mission. My guess is that it will be a flashback, much like the beginning of Metal Gear Solid 2 with Snake on the tanker. Though hopefully, we won't be getting the Bioware equivalent of Raiden for the rest of the game..

I'm more assuming that Shepard fakes his death so he can move around more easily - yes, even though he's a spectre. Part two is apparently about some crime syndicate or something, maybe Shepard takes an assumed identity to infiltrate.

They can't put a character in the trailer when you were given the option to have Ashley pop a few into the back of his head

Actually, it's more a secret military organization than an underground crime syndicate. There is a crime syndicate in Mass Effect, ruled by the Shadow Broker (who is rumored to be actually several people) and who is the only one to really know much about the mysterious species of the Collectors.

The military organization under focus in Mass Effect 2 is Cerberus, which was already quite important in Mass Effect 1. They have many secret laboratories on various planets, often dealing with experiments on Geth technology, the Rachni species, or even humans. The leader of Cerberus, known only as The Illusive Man, was the main antagonist in the novel that takes place shortly after Mass Effect 1, called Mass Effect: Ascension.

It is indeed likely that Shepard faked his death to avoid being followed, since Cerberus has men pretty much everywhere, even in the ranks of the Citadel. The fact that the developpers confirmed that we would be going to "Omega" in Mass Effect 2 pretty much confirms that the Illusive Man is involved, since Omega is a lawless planet where the black market is manipulated by Cerberus.

Somehow I thought the consort boss Sha'ira was the Shadow Broker.

She has many contacts and strings she can pull, but I doubt she is the Shadow Broker. There is a Volus in a nearby building in the Citadel that talks about the Shadow Broker. His belief is that considering how many decisions the Shadow Broker takes on a daily basis on a galactic scale to corner markets, sell, buy, trade and make a profit, it's pretty much impossible for it to be a single person. He thinks it's either an extremely advanced A.I. or a group of people who share the same, mysterious identity.
