+166 Internets | Board games? So we're getting bored (hoho!) of our board games. We've played Loaded Questions and Cranium to death, so much so that I can pretty much guess what my brothers are going to say even before the question is asked. We've played other card/dice games like Sequence, Farkle, Phase 10, etc...and while those tide us over those are more closers to play when it's too early to go home/bed, but we have time for more gaming. We will on occasion play games like fireball island or dungeon or key to the kingdom or dark tower and shit like that, but one of my brothers is a trucker so he doesn't really go for that. So I guess yeah, on the lookout for some new games to play. What are some of your favorites? I know we had a thread like this once before but my searchfu is failing me. If it helps, one of my brothers is a DnD nerd turned graphic artist, another is a trucker, another is an DnD nerd turned English teacher (we fucking love playing Hero Quest), I'm a DnD nerd turnd network engineer/programmer and my dad is a smartass. Any thoughts/suggestions would be welcome. Thanks guys! |

+11 Internets | Well we turned apples to apples into a drinking game and it was excellent. Trying to decide who wins for matching the word hopeless with rosie o'donnel, the jews, and nerds was possibly the hardest thing ever. It doesn't exactly have a point but to get wasted but its a nice game for that purpose. |

| 1. Settlers of Catan - One of the best board games period. 2. Risk - Classic 3. Risk 2021 - Risk with nuclear weapons and the moon to conquer? Yes please. 4. Lord of the Rings - It is a cooperative game that I don't think I ever managed to beat on hard. It's really fun and a nice change of pace. 5. Circus Imperium - Race around a track on beasts with monster riders armed with weapons. Very fun. 6. Betrayal at House on the Hill - Everyone wanders around a mansion and as things are discovered a story occurs. One of the players turns evil and is given a evil victory objective while the players get a hero victory objective. There are like 100 stories and it's pretty cool to have no idea who the villain is and not being sure what he needs to do to win. 7. Robo Rally - Try to get your robot through a factory without dying. You have a set of move cards and your turn is composed of like 7 moves which you plan out with the cards you have. One fuck up and it's right into the compactor or lazer beams or off a cliff. 8. Gammarauders - Giant monster vs giant monster warfare. Arm them with weapons and send them against enemy cities. 9. Drakkon - Everyone builds the board as they go with tiles that can do things like teleport, let you mind control someone for a turn, move a room, destroy a room, etc. A great game if everyone is trying their best, a terrible game if someone doesn't give a shit. 10. Arkham Horror - A Lovecraftian horror is trying to break onto the plane so gear up and kill it. |

| Hero Quest hasn't aged well, especially for DnD nerds who are going to immediately see the problems with the game. I can personally recommend A Game of Thrones. Its great strategy and its really fun, and has essentially an "event limit" which is helpful in long stalemates. |

| I 2nd Arbitrary's list basically. Add Axis & Allies if you guys like Risk and want to try something more tactical and less political. I've seen a glut of new party/word board games come into work lately, so maybe check out a Borders or B&N and see if they've got something that looks like fun to you. |

| Has balls of steel. | My friend and I play many boardgames, he's a fanatical collector so I can mention a few. Race for the Galaxy is a great card game, it's similar in style with San Juan, I've mostly played with only 1 other person, but it's a great game overall that requires strategy and thinking. Dominion is another game that's easy to learn and pick up and play and is usually a big favorite when we have meetings to play boardgames. StarCraft the board game is a little hard to learn but also is fairly tactical and it really sticks to the game, meaning you won't see zerglings being more costly than hydras etc.. As for easy games that require a short attention span and anyone can learn in minutes.. For Sale is one.. Incan Gold is incredibly fun and lastly.. Formula D is great.. it's easy to play but it does require a lil deal of thinking ahead. Oh... and of course Carcassonne .. that's a given.. it's simple and addictive. +14 Internets | Cash'n'Guns is pretty entertaining if you like to pretend to kill each other with little foam weapons. Second Munchkin, also Chez Geek can be fun (But it's got a bit more loopholey-ness to it than Munchkin). |

+5 Internets | Junta was always fun. You get to be El Presidente, stage a coup, back-stab and double-deal in a banana republic all the while trying to gain as much cash as you can. Wikipedia Junta entry |

+40 Internets | Civilization and Advanced Civilization are great board games; if you ever play them you will be astonished at just how much of them Sid Meier 'borrowed' for the PC game, even retaining the name. Axis and Allies is terrific. Diplomacy is fun but very Machiavellian. Settlers of Catan is exceptional, with many addons or complex editions. This is the basic game and here is an example of one of the collections. . Last edited by Flight; 11-29-2008 at 07:32 AM.. |

| I can dance if I want to | Mayfair games(Catan folks) make a strategy game called "Domaine" that I would highly recommend...me and my circle of strategy game players have been playing it for years and despite very few rules it's a very hard game to master. They thankfully had the foresight to make the game "end" when the deck runs out or else you could have games lasting 4h+, though knowing when the game ends is a big part of developing a strategy.
