+17 Internets | League of Legends Interesting acronym on this one (LoL) but is apparently a new DOTA-style game headed by Guinsoo, the original creator of DOTA Allstars. Here's a shacknews article about it: Warcraft Mod Creators Ready LOLs - Shacknews - PC Games, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii video game news, previews and downloads And the official website: League of Legends - Clash of Fates There's a beta sign up. Screenshots are kinda meh. |

| Interesting... I can't say that Guinsoo was the best developer of DotA, but he did have some good ideas. Without Icefrog the game really wouldn't be anywhere near where it is now, competitively speaking. Still, very interested in seeing where this goes. |

+75 Internets | Saw it posted on kotaku. While I've been eagerly awaiting a stand-alone commercial DotA style game, I'm not entirely sure this will live up to the task. The screenshots weren't very impressive. |

| Flaccid Steel | Guinsoo had some nice ideas but IceFrog is what made DOTA so good. If Guinsoo and Icefrog work together I can see great things. They seriously have enough popularity as a stand alone game.

+6 Internets | I said this in another thread, but how exactly are you going to create traction for a new DOTA when the existing game is nearly bug free, cheap, has excellent online features, decent anti-cheat measures and also allows you to play one of the best RTS out there as well as a number of other entertaining minigames? Not to mention 90% of the target audience already owns it. I have serious doubts anyone but a major studio could pull it off. And yeah, Guinsoo is not the guy that made DOTA great. |

| The screenshots were fine - nothing too impressive in terms of high end graphics, but its very similar to the WC3 models/engine, which is what I'm guessing they were aiming for. Elerion I think that's a great point, the difficulty in swaying people over to this game (or the other DotA game being made by Gas Powered Games). One of the things that is different with this game is that the online service/capabilities could be built around the game. What I mean is that on WarCraft 3, DOTA is just a custom game. There's some third party programs like Banlist and whatnot that can track players and give feedback, probably can keep track of records and whatnot too, but there really isn't the same support that WarCraft 3 ladder gets. Which is understandable, if they had to support any/all custom games like they do with tournaments for ladder I think that would be overwhelming. But what this and the other game could do, is have tournaments up, keep track of records, penalize people for quitting, team match making systems.. things like that to stand out over WC3. I don't know what type of online servers they plan on running and what it can handle but they could also try to integrate voice chat live to your teammates and whatnot. I'm sure there are plenty of other options available. The one thing I wonder though, depending on its popularity, how likely are they going to be able to have a free online service like B.Net? Or will they need to take the MMO route of monthly fees. |

| The neat thing about a stand alone is that it gives them the power to make map diversification, so instead of playing the same battleground over and over, you get some variety. There are also a substantial number of limitations presented by the WE that disallow a decent amount of ideas, which can be annoying. I think the market can be tapped, but you must do it from a "the next DotA" standpoint, not "another DotA" standpoint, which this appears to be. What I mean is you need the game to graphically excel, you need the game to have numerous maps and services, etc. |

+6 Internets | Yes, there is room for a "next DotA", but it's going to require such serious resources, heavy marketing and reliable backing that it has to come out of a bigass studio. Anything outside of a 100% clear upgrade will fail, and even then it will require more than word of mouth advertising. |

1. Limitations imposed by WC3 engine on Heroes, skills, abilities, items.... 2. BNet in general. Have to resort to third parties like TDA for "banlists" and such crap, they sort of work, but a built in rep/ladder system that you can't game would go a LONG way with a lot of people. If I can hop on and know I'm not almost guaranteed to have somebody leave a game 15 minutes without having to deal with all the bullshit associated with things like TDA I'm sold already. | |

| Stop running back to old times | I don't see why every body thinks this will be so shitty. The simple fact they don't have to use the Wc3E any more will be amazing for the game. I'll definitely be buying it. I would have bought DoTA with as many hours as I've put into the game. Plus I love the character ideas LoL has brought so far. |
