+4 Internets | If anybody has a beta invite, I'd be interested in trying this game. I've played dota for many years and am currently playing HoN, but I'd be interested to see if I prefer the dota clone direction of HoN or the apparently new direction of LoL. |

| So: of the new games, how's the camera zoom? Are they both locked in tight like the ancient WC3 camera, or can you actually zoom out to see everything you've got sighted in either of them? Arbitrary limitations on things like that put me right off. SupCom camera was one of the few things Demigod did correctly. Edit: Research report! HON seems to be infected with Dota Disease via shit camera. Feel free to prove this incorrect. LOL seems to have the same problem, but the zoom is a little more generous (slightly). It's hard to tell exactly how much better it is in practice due to the only decent shots I found involving the smaller models, and none of them showing a really isolated fogged environment (hardly any fogged areas visible in the screens I found, with the exception of the very low-angle shots - understandable for a screenshot gallery, of course, but not useful for my interests). It's definitely not fog-to-fog distance, but it's a little better than nothing. There's still a definite tradeoff between looking forward and being able to see what's "behind" you. | LoL's view seems pretty good. It doesn't look like HoN for example where some of the ranged heroes will be off the screen if you were to center in on the target. Anyways, being free really surprises me. In fact, I think this pricing policy would have been more suited for HoN considering it's a complete rip off of DotA. I mean seriously you're just paying for some better UI mechanics and some back end changes.

But really, the game mechanics are pretty much exactly the same, as are the majority of the current heroes and all the items. What makes me like LoL more and more when I play it is that the game is based on DotA, but they weren't afraid to make changes to make the game more fun.

| Biggest negative to me is actually the "progression" system they have in place right now with LoL, one of the things I really like about DotA is none of that skill tree stuff that passively improves your hero. Or choosing the two extra spells to be able to cast, different strokes I guess though. |

I think one of driving forces of decisions in DOTA, WCIII, SCI and SCII is the competitive environment; around Europe and Korea, these games are beginning to really pick up steam in money tournaments, and some players are beginning to make full-time livings just playing one of the games. To be a game that has a healthy professional/competitive presence, you can't have a system balanced around the fact that things are "unlocked" and that some players might be innately better than other players due to unlockables. It might not happen because LoL has said they don't want $ to = power, but anytime you have a F2P system, there's a constant concern for the fact that players who spend more have more tools in a match thereby completely destroying any semblance of fair competition.

The president of the company says money for power will never happen, I guess really only time will tell though. PS: Keep an eye on your email this weekend.

+12 Internets | I personally like the summoner spell aspect because then you don't have to be locked into certain items geared for STR/INT/AGI heroes for click effects. With Legends, I can have a Purge on any of my heroes and this just opens up a lot more build possibilities for each hero. |

| All beta testers are getting 1 friend key. Trying to secure extras that people have so I can hook up some FOH members. And like I said, keep an eye on your email. 3000 invites going out probably tomorrow or tonight.
