partial NDA break here, but heroes aren't "locked" based on level... at least not currently.

(EDIT) also, what's your name in LoL?

I'm not sure you can really compare the 'beta status' of each game. Like you said, HoN is sitting in a sort-of open beta state while Legends is in a strict closed beta with focus test times... Of course HoN will have more players and more games going. However, I see all of the same frustrations in DotA that I do in HoN, namely people leaving games and bnet scrubs saying retarded shit.

Eventually, and hopefully soon, Legends will increase test times and # of testers and be on par with HoN's beta numbers.

My online name is vinhtran i'll be on this weekend sometimes.

I was in at week 1 for the Legends closed beta and I can tell you the game has taken huge improvement leaps. A lot of what you saw/see are placeholder and many major systems are still being developed or polished.

Yea, I do see the potential (TM) in LoL. Some good stuff in there -- in theory. Right now its simply not there yet and still a long way to go.

The advantage to me (perhaps disadvantage to others) of LoL is that it isn't a strict DotA clone like HoN. Some people love it, I honestly can't believe people want all 100+ DotA heroes rather than cool new heroes.

They say they made HoN so they could have a DotA without WC3 engine limitations. I didn't think that meant only restrictions with UI, and chat, and shit like that.

Biggest limitation any DOTA clone will have to get over is DOTA players. After playing HoN for a week, pretty sure I'm done with public games for good. Largest group of mouthbreathers I've ever seen. Spent 30 minutes with some guy who just figured out what capslock does pointing out that I didn't know DOTA acronyms and therefore, to quote him, "OMG OMG A NOOB OMG Y R U PLAYING THIS GAME IF U DIDNT PLAY DOTA?!!"

True, but dota has such a huge player population that you never need to play pubs. I play in a dota league on bnet and 99% of my games have no leavers and good teamwork. Pub dota is a whole different game where people pick carries and never help their team until they are farmed.

shame that both games are going to be blown away when blizzard develop their own DOTA mod incorporated into starcraft 2.

How will DotA work in Starcraft? I didn't think Starcraft had a hero-like system. I guess they could add it though.

Blizzard has said SC2 will ship with an experience/item system, so dota will be possible

Blizzard hasn't really been all that successful in the past making their own iterations of custom maps. They're cool and much more polished than the typical custom maps, but they don't get a whole lot of play on the custom game circuit.

Thanks for the invite Fatty, really appreciate it.

First impression of this game, it seems pretty good. I didn't really play DotA so only have HoN to compare it to. Some things seem better, some seem worse. I think the fact that it's NOT a DotA clone actually is a huge advantage. Doesn't have to stick to some retarded game mechanics just because it's what people expect after playing DotA for years.

Edit: Also I must add that I like the items and stats much better in LoL. Intel heroes in HoN can feel pretty weak, being able to increase the damage of abilities through items is awesome.

some new game information has been released over at League of Legends - Clash of Fates

Mainly, the game will be Free to Play.

They've also released information on their character progression. All pluses in my book.
