Mercenaries 2

I did a title search and couldn't come up with anything on the title. I was considering getting this for PS2 just based on the commercial, and because the song Oh No You Didn't is awesome, and you can download the full .mp3 off the Merc 2 site.

Anyone play this title for PS2, or any other platform?

IGN has a review up.
IGN: Mercenaries 2: World in Flames Review

Basically. Everything about the gameplay (except for blowing shit up) is annoying to bad. Bad sound. Bad AI. Questionable design decisions. No mission flow. Bugs and errors.

BUT.

They say blowing shit up is very very nice. Ultimately the redeeming characteristic of the game. Blowing stuff up is so nice, it manages to overcome the bad stuff and make the game good.

Oh, online co-op.

I think its a buy, but I'm going to wait for it in the bargain bin or sale.

I really don't care about this game but I love Oh No You Didn't and I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say it's the greatest song in the history of music: Oh No You Didn't.

Heard from a friend who usually shares similar opinions on games - that it was pretty bad, he returned it within an hour of playing it, /shrug. Not being a huge nut of explosions, don't think i'll bother w/it.

I was considering buying a 40 dollar game (at Wal-Mart that is its price right now) because the commercial intrigued me and the song was good. What's wrong with that? By the way, that's what people mean when they connect two parts of a sentence with the word "and."

There's way too much stupid h8 from reviews I've seen so far on this game. Some reviewer even marked it down saying that a part that is easy as hell to figure out as long as you have an IQ over 2(calling in your heli-pilot to pick up fuel/cash/ordinance strikes) was too difficult to figure out for a new player and wasn't explained well, even though it is, and you'd have to be in fucking 1st grade to not know how to do it even if you didn't bother to read the little pop-up showing how do to it.

As far as the game itself, I've noticed most of the bugs seem to be more prevalent in co-op mode. In single-player, most of the bugs I experience with the buddy I play with don't happen nearly as frequently. Most of them are minor little glitches like enemies not shooting correctly or getting stuck in certain objects. We did have one major bug where I dropped a daisy cutter near one of the outposts we were supposed to take over and destroyed it, failing the mission while my buddy was doing the little cut-sceneish thingy to take over a tank. When we reloaded the misssion, he was stuck and couldn't move, even though on my screen he moved fine. That's the only real "game-breaking" bug I've found so far.

Sound: The voice-acting for the main characters is pretty decent(Peter Storemare ftw), but the constant radio chat of your HQ chick blabbering about returning to the HQ if you need help figuring out where to go gets really damn annoying after you hear it for the 608th time.

The soundtrack is pretty decent and the sounds of explosions/gunfire/etc. are pretty well done IMO.

Gameplay: Mostly a run and gun 3rd person perspective ala GTA:IV. Not the greatest controls for shooting and such, but this game isn't meant to be an FPS. It's a 3rd person sandbox game in which you blow shit up. LOTS of shit. Literally everything in the game can be destroyed.

Co-op is a damn blast. Stuff you can pull off as a team, especially if you're using voice is pretty sweet. Coordinating for some of the missions together makes them so much smoother in most cases.

Graphics: IMO they are really well done. They look pretty nice even in SD, especially the explosions. I can't even imagine how badass they'd be with an HD setup.

I'd definitely give the game an 8-8.5/10, but without co-op, I'd probably drop that to a 6.5/7.0. Having a friend to revel in the mass amounts of destruction along with you just makes it so much more satisfying. If you've got a good friend to play with, I'd say the game is definitely worth 60$. Otherwise, it's probably only good as a rental.

Okay, I'm sorry, but that song is irritating as hell.

Song is my current ringtone.

I had little to no interest in this game before that TV spot came out. Kudos to their marketing department making me want it.

Bought this for PC, yes I actually bought a game for PC..crazy.

The bad: HORRIBLE AND UTTER COMPLETE SHIT mouse control. Fuck this game when using a mouse. Sometimes when I aim any direction the reticle doesn't move like it is stuck in auto aim and other times it spins in all kinds of directions and I get all fucked up until I can find my bearings. Why when I crouch does the reticle jump what seems to be in a random up or down direction? Makes zooming in pointless especially when you are behind waist high cover. Some of the voice actings seems to be pieced together words sometimes.

I may need to try this game with a game pad and see if that helps.

The good:
Story works well enough. The custom vehicles are a ton of fun. EVERYTHING blows up nicely. Co-op is fucking awesome. I recommend it for an few hours of fun when you want to blow up things. Putting 4 things of C4 on the road and waiting for something to drive over never gets old. Pretty sure a car went so high it burned up in the atmosphere.

I really hope they patch the controls it really is frustrating.
