Na it's much later, like I'm in Denerim travelling between the areas, and I get jumped by another assassin who seems to know Zevran or whatever, then Zevran comes and he's like eh dude and they joke around, then Zevran is like sorry Grey Warden, let's go again, we fight, and he sucks just as much as first time but this time he dies. He's at +64relationship too, or somewhere around that. Anyway I'll see if completing the crow trials fix it, it should I guess, else I'll just kill his stupid ass and get the book to learn about assassins, never used him in my party anyway. Just found stupid that you don't get any way to convince him to stay on your side like you can when stuff like that usually happens(like with Wynne when you get her, wrong dialogue choices will make her attack you multiple times, but right ones make it ok for her to group with a blood mage, an apostate and a golem)

I used the console to remove spell wisp and give myself force field. The game is now quite a bit more fun.

I ran into this side quest for refugees (15 darkspawn and 1 orange name caster darkspawn) I left my party at the entrance area and soloed the 15 darkspawn without any trouble.

Whoever commented on momentum earlier is absolutely right. I positioned the gay elf assassin behind the caster once the tank was on it. Mark of death > death strike (i think its called) and momentum, and of course a swift kick to the balls (forget the name of the ability). I don't think I've ever seen an "elite" die so fast. I am using The Edge as his mainhand, even though daggers are apparently bugged. I guess you don't get a dex bonus to dmg for daggers, though intended. The demon ichor poison that procs stun is also rather amazing. I find myself manually controlling the assassin quite often.

I used the console to also check out earthquake. No cast time, knockdown spam, targeted large AE. This could possibly be one of the most OP spells in the game.

Wondering what platform most people are using.
I was thinking of getting a PS3 anyways, so am wondering about control feedback while playing on the console.

Does anyone think its easier/harder on the PC rather than the console?

I've actually read (heard?) that the encounters are "nerfed" in console versions (less enemies or something?). Can't recall if it was the gametrailers review or where though :|

I looked the console commands but how do you change individual spells? This was the page I was looking at.

Dragon Age: Origins - The Missing Manual >> cheats

It quite often fails completely to stun stuff though, and the blood magic stun is better, it's not purely instant since you throw a projectile before it starts, but it doesn't hit allies so you can cast it wherever you want and hit the mobs while they're stunned and does much more damage. Also 20secs cooldown when EQ is on like 40secs iirc. Obviously it requires a specialization so that's the downside, but it's basically the best spell in the game(on its own, I guess forcefield combined with other spells is simply stupid), and alone makes blood magic worth taking. Well really, it's the only good blood magic spell.

Could you post what the commands are exactly btw, like how you find which ability to add and stuff, I checked quickly the other day but it seemed it didn't tell you what are the correct spell IDs and didn't wanna try stuff for hours, but I wanna test every spells in various conditions see which are good to take on my 2nd playthrough.

Yeah, my roommate is playing on PC and I'm playing on 360, both on normal. His fights definitely have more mobs on average, and normal on console = no friendly fire, but 50% on PC.

PC is far superior though, the UI is 100000x better.

Yup, momentum owns.

Daggers' dex bonus can be fixed with the hotfix at Dragon Age: Origins - The Missing Manual >> items:weapons ...

I also end up controlling my rogue all the time, mainly because there's no tactic for positioning. If you want to backstab you have to do it manually, which pretty much means that having two rogues in a party is worthless, unless one of them is Leliana and you don't mind her awful bow dps.

That fix says to put it in the override folder? I must be retarded because I don't see it. I'm gonna blame any stupidity on it being early and me staying up late playing this terrific game.

Kotaku review articulates the issues I'm seeing:

Dragon Age: Origins Review: Tripping The Blight Fantastic - Dragon age: origins - Kotaku

Not an actual spoiler, but a quote from the linked article:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Bugs Aplenty: My time with the PlayStation 3 version of Dragon Age was not without troubles. In fact, my 40 or so hours in the game were plagued with annoying little glitches that, while not breaking the game completely, did hamper the experience. Some special combat animations were way off, with my character performing finishing blows in the air next to the boss I had just downed. Sound glitched frequently, leaving me watching a character's lips move while no words came. On a few occasions the screen would glitch when a character was speaking, showing broken geometry instead of the person talking. I also had issues with monsters dying and taking up to 30 seconds to register as dead, making me have to wait to loot bodies and in some cases delaying the completion of certain quests.

Perhaps the biggest bug I encountered was during the final battle, when I simply could not progress. BioWare suggested it was due to a monster I needed to kill falling through the world. I wound up having to load a previous save in order to complete the game. Luckily the game had autosaved just before the battle started, but it was definitely more frustration than I needed.

Chugga Chugga Frame Rate: Dragon Age is a pretty game, but when it really starts moving, things get ugly. With only a couple of characters on the screen things aren't too bad, leaning towards the high 20's frame rate-wise, but when you're in a big battle or a crowd scene, things dip into the middle to high teens. Mind you I am guestimating here...it's not like I have some magical PS3 FPS tool, but the dip is definitely noticeable.

Gamestop won't let me exchange for a 360 copy, which didn't surprise me. What did surprise me is that they're only paying $25 trade-in. I'm just going to suck it up and stick with the PS3 copy.

Don't know about you, but I think caste systems are the most evil social order we ever came up with. Nobility just places a few above everyone else, caste systems also place a lot of people below everyone else and treats them like shit.

a culture believing in a caste system can go to hell for all I care. That's why I wrecked the anvil.

That and I want to get into some pants.

Mine's at:
C:\Users\Vorph\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override
on Windows 7.

It would be something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\Vorph\My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override
on XP.

Not sure why he changed the instructions to say "underneath the game's installation location" because it used to say the path above (which is correct).

A 2 Rogue setup is fine as long as one of them has the talent which gives them a wider flanking range.

Console commands:

If you are running via steam like I am, right click on the game in the games list. Choose properties and then launch command i believe it was. Add in the following where the box asks for text

-enabledeveloperconsole

if you arent using steam, just add it to the target box of the properties of the shortcut (don't forget the space)

In game hit ~

You wont see a damn thing, start typing and the upper section of the screen fills with a character map. Hit enter when you are done typing.

If you find you cant move or click anything, the developer console is still open, hit enter once. It's invisible so you won't see anything you type.

The great thing about Dragon Age is the dialog, and the many choices you can make. The hallmark of a great single player RPG is knowing you can actually affect the world in more than two different ways. Much credit to the engine, too. It runs great on a two year old computer, and the combat is fun.

One problem I have with this game: The characters are utterly boring. I'm not going to remember these people very long after I finish playing the game. The characters are wooden, cookie-cutter classic fantasy RPG types. They could be more bland and cliched, but nonetheless.

Remember these guys? Yes? Why? Because they were fucking interesting and had unique backgrounds and stories.
