| Needing gaming substance. Alright, here is the deal I have been seriously needing to fill a void lately. For the first time in many years I am feeling like I cannot find anything to hold my interest for a decent amount of time. I am hoping maybe some of you can help ![]() I am looking to start playing something that has a good story line, and that can hold interest. I am not interested in anything JRPG (I do not consider the FF series or any of the 16 bit square games JRPG). That being said, I own all the FF anyway. So if anyone has anything for PC or 360, or ps2, or emulator please feel free to toss suggestions! |

+20 Internets | There's this fantastic sci-fi/survival horror game out on 360 now. It takes place deep under the ocean, which is a fairly unique setting for these types of games, and they've used it to great effect. The environment is scarier than the enemies at times. It has a great storyline (especially if you like sci-fi movies from the 80s) and features fantastic voice acting from well-known actors such as Ed Harris. Definitely check it out, I think it's dead-on what you're looking for. |

+8 Internets | I'm pretty sure you're speaking of a general malaise that seems to be sweeping most gamers I know right now, including myself. Wish I had an answer for you.

| My top suggestion would be Mass Effect There's been some really good games out this last year for the 360(with stories and everything, I know). If you haven't, play Assassin's Creed-360-, Jade Empire-xbox-, Lost Odyssey-360-, Knights of the Old republic-xbox-(basically anything by Bioware, actually), the Halo series-360-(the story is actually very good), maybe the Jak and Daxter series-ps2-, Prince of Persia series-PC-, the Summoner series-ps2-, the God of War series-ps2- or kingdom hearts-ps2- All of those games I listed off have great stories(PoP is meh, I'll admit, but I added it anyway), and have a very wide variety of gameplay, all done well. Shooters, turnbased, platformers, hack and slash... but all with great stories. Hope your void is filled.

| I just finished Mass Effect on x360 and thought the story was ok. It wasn't bad or cheesy, but just ok; a lot may have to do with the game being part of a trilogy so a lot of stuff isn't fully fleshed out. The main game itself is also kind of short at around 10-12 hours, I did all the side quests and finished at just a tad under 24 hours. Worth a rental or used/cheap buy, I wouldn't pay $60 for ME though. Was just starting assassins creed but quit after 10 minutes, the game starts out with some retarded starter story (you are some kind of assassin in the present and reliving memories of the past), I was really expecting a "you are a 14th century assassin" straight up story instead of this scifi shit. I'll get back to it later I'm sure. Did enjoy GTA4, imo GTA:VC or even Liberty City was better storywise but I enjoyed all the side quests and main story of GTA4. Gonna mix it up with Bioshock and Star Wars Lego too, try those if you haven't - played a few mins so far of Star Wars Lego and its AWESOME (heard Indiana Jones Lego is great too). Also just recently finished Portal and HL2 Episodes 1 & 2 (played HL2 years ago but never played the episodes), all were really fun. Loved Portal, I finally get all the cake and companion cube references people make (haha) if you never played em go back and check out Planescape:Torment and all the Monkey Island games. |

| There hasn't been jack worth a damn released this summer. Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect are probably the best two titles and those are just console ports to PC. They also have very little replayabilty so a week with each and you are looking for more. I personally just finished Half Life 2 for the first time (100% amazing game, best shooter ever even being 4 years old) and have the next 2 episodes to work on. But that's like 1 or 2 days worth at best. Hopefully something new comes out. Diablo 2 is seeing a huge resurgence thanks to the D3 accouncement and the lack of anything else worth a damn to play. All the current MMOs suck or are old. At least movies have been great so far. Looking on the horizon, the gaming doldrums don't appear to be ending anytime soon. Maybe the DLC free content for ME will make it worth a replay when it comes out.

| Man, I must be getting easy to please in my old age. I've enjoyed so many games at the end of last year going into summer this year. I really don't know w hat to even recommend, every time I go to the store I find something worthwhile to at least rent. |

+9 Internets | Team Fortress 2. Has a very engaging story about the ever lasting battle between Builders League United (BLU) and Reliable Excavation Demolition (RED) . Very heart wrenching story, though I personally prefer spy wrenching but that's another discussion. It's a great FPS RPG I highly recommend it. |

On that note, Square needs to fucking pick up the slack. It's been so. Damn. Long. You guys had gameplay trailers at the E3 unveiling of the PS3! I mean shit, that was back when the convention meant a damn. It's been THAT LONG! I realize that Square always take half a decade from announce to release, but I can honestly say this feels like not having sex for the same duration of time. I'm a worn husk. Desperate... Please finish 13 And please, oh please stop wasting time on handhelds.

Just to Xbox360 this fall: August, Tales of Vesperia September, Rise of the Argonauts (dunno how good/bad this is though) September, Infinite Undiscovery October, Fable 2 October, Fallout 3 Perhaps I'm even missing some titles for Xbox, but those alone should keep people busy for a while. All these dates are subject to change though obviously. Quote:
